GAME THREAD: @ Ole Miss, Monday, 1/26, 4 pm, ESPNU

The standings are based on winning percentage in every sport. Games in baseball and softball are routinely canceled, we saw plenty of basketball cancellations during the Covid year as well.
Yeah, I was just looking back at the SEC standings from the 2020-21 season, and teams played anywhere from 12 to all 16 teams. Truly all over the place. And forgot that just 5 years ago TAMU finished 1st in the regular season! My how things have changed under Joni Taylor...

Don’t care who wins. I think UConn has the better team this year, sure.

Truly do not think that game does anything at all to advance our program. We’re rebuilding under a new coach with a new direction. Feeding some long dead rivalry so ESPN (or whoever TF) can make a few bucks is stupid. The UConn/Tennessee series hasn’t been relevant since Candace Parker was at Tennessee.
Agree, back in the Pat days and LV dominance, UConn was the up and coming challenger and TV ate it up. Raised women's CBB to a much higher level but now not the case, just another game. I don't see it getting LV's any necessary need.

right it is now just another game.... i wish it wasn't on schedule..... but both programs see value in playing it still

I’d say this is her last year there.

If the ratings weren't still good and the networks didn't see value they wouldn't keep scheduling it on national TV. Someone must still be watching.
no doubt but i get tired of the same byline pat and geno it is a different era and landscape for WCBB the game used to be seismic for the sport it is a mere whimper of that now

I can't wait til Caldwell has more scheduling control next season, then when she schedules a bunch cupcakes like Mulkey, watch how some gonna scream "Why aren't we playing UConn, UL, and NC State anymore!"

I remember Harper's last season when her non conference was nothing but Top 25 opponents and fans cried she didn't balance out her scheduling and we only was able to beat OU by a bucket in the Alaska classic.

Sometimes there is just no pleasing our fans. 😭

We had plenty of beef this year, bordering on too much on the high end. Just need to raise the floor.

CKC won’t schedule a bunch of cupcakes like Mulkey. She has said too many times that we need some challenges to gauge where we’re really at before SEC.

I actually thought they did a great job of balancing cupcakes with challenges this season. My main complaint is that we didn't get any good noncon games at home, but we will get UCLA here next year. Sometimes that's just how the cookie crumbles.

I was talking about Harper's season how some fans were outraged vs what Caldwell could potentially do next season. A lot of the games we've seen the last two seasons have been contract or promise games from Harper's tenure (MTST, NC State, Memphis and the UConn games). As far as I know UCLA is the only game series that truly belongs to Caldwell thusfar.

Probably the cynic in me, but doesn’t this line up for better match ups and increased demand and price increases at TBA? I’ll be keeping an eye 👀 on that shifty Jackettootitus… 😉🤙🏼🧡

Full stop. Caldwell was responsible for the scheduling of NC State and UCLA this year. The Louisville game was agreed to by her as well, as UT had no obligation to return to the Champion's Classic, but elected to do so. ACC-SEC Challenge is on for every year, so you'll get a decent opponent out of that.

The games she had no control over leftover from the previous regime were trips to UT-Martin and MTSU. I don't see those kinds of trips happening again.

As for next year, they'll have UCLA at home and likely NC State at neutral site in Tennessee. They have a neutral site game scheduled for Nashville in December against a P4 team, not sure if that's NC State or an extra game. UT also should host an ACC-SEC Challenge game. Not sure if UConn is coming here or if that series is taking a break. UT would like to not have it in the middle of SEC play and that's the only place UConn wants it. The schedule will be just as tough next year, but most of the tough games will be at home.
