GAME THREAD: @ Ole Miss, Monday, 1/26, 4 pm, ESPNU

If you want the UConn/LV game cancelled because of a potential "butt kicking" we could receive tells me a lot about some.

I remember last year I read this argument on Twitter and other platforms and we managed to win it and we was happy and talking ISH.

If we so happened to pull an upset this year, with it being our last year under Nike, it would be a HUGE STATEMENT WIN, recruiting could actually peak with this game, and the media and popular women's basketball podcasters on YouTube would have no choice but to talk about us!

Have you noticed since our last two butt kickings, NO ONE TALKS ABOUT US because they still don't trust our team for example. If we want to show we have potential throughout the rest of the season to keep up with the country's elite we have to start with the best whether we win or lose.

Just a thought.
Yes! Exactly! I actually think the team has improved, so it is a good benchmark for us. I also hate ducking smoke. If we get blown out by 40, that tells us something. If we keep it close or pull out the upset, the benefits are numerous as you mentioned.

Don’t care who wins. I think UConn has the better team this year, sure.

Truly do not think that game does anything at all to advance our program. We’re rebuilding under a new coach with a new direction. Feeding some long dead rivalry so ESPN (or whoever TF) can make a few bucks is stupid. The UConn/Tennessee series hasn’t been relevant since Candace Parker was at Tennessee.

I am for continuing the series but to stop having it be in the middle of the SEC schedule. It may be there partially due to ratings but Geno definitely lobbies for it. They play such a weak conference schedule that I am sure he worries that this works against them at tournament time. He actually said about the proposed series with LSU that he wants it to be during conference play. Most teams get two games off during the SEC schedule, and that gives them much needed time to rest, heal, and recalibrate. We get the opposite playing Uconn in one of those two slots whereas they get some needed competition. At worst, let the away team dictate the time of year so that we either play UConn in Hartford in December or here during the conference schedule. At best, get. all the games preconference. Last year's game was the highlight game for me since Pat's retirement and drew several thousand more than our games against our SEC rivals.
Let's keep it but move it.

My hope is next season if we play in that round Robin with the Brooklyn Classic we'll play Uconn in it so it won't interrupt conference play.

Other than that let's put our big boy and girl pants on and play the game. This game has always been played during late January/early February of the new year when both teams are in the middle of conference. I remember in the early 2000s one year we played this game twice during the season. We don't need to run away from any challenge! In order to beat them, you can't be scared of the name on the front of the jersey with them. Im not saying that with our Lady Vols but I mean all teams that play Uconn.

Well I hate to tell you but who you beat has very little to do with recruiting anymore. It's all about the money now and everyone is getting paid for sure some more than others. Most people wouldn't take a job doing the exact same thing for 50 - 100 thousand less. But to be fair to both teams it should be played last game before Christmas break. This conference is much tougher from top to bottom than any other conference. Certainly will have more lingering effect on the VOLS with there style of play and going into the toughest part of the schedule. Really need to finish in the top 6 to play at home first 2 games.

We won’t drop the UConn game this season because Ole Miss already has a gameFeb 1st. The same day we play UConn, so it doesn’t help any. I don’t mind us playing UConn during the regular season regardless . It gives us a measuring stick to where we are, it’s good for women’s college basketball, plus to be the best we have to play the best. Why change up now!? Go Lady Vols!

@DeerPark12 what are your thoughts on the rescheduling of this one? Will they cancel and swap the Uconn game or squeeze it in somewhere?
I don't know what they'll do. Can't just cancel UConn, Ole Miss has Auburn that day and I'm not sure it's even contractually possible to cancel that game because it's a national TV game on Fox. Best guess is they'll either wedge it in on a Tuesday or not play it at all. With not playing it being the most likely.

The UConn game is on Fox, so ESPN makes zero dollars regardless. Tennessee plays UConn because they believe that it has value to the program, no other reason. As long as Tennessee believe that, then I support them playing it. I wish it was in November instead of February, but they didn't ask me.

The series stopped being "relevant" after Candace because we quit playing it.

How would they seed the tourney if this game is canceled?

I would think they'd do anything to avoid seeding teams who played one less game. Really hard to make that fair.

Have y'all seen clips of Oxford? It looks like a post apocalyptic dystopian movie. Prayers for the folks in that town.
Baseball and softball have rainouts every year. The SEC simply seeds the conference tournament by winning percentage. This is not a new concept and the SEC can simply follow the same guidelines.

I think it would be more fair than asking Tennessee and Ole Miss to play four games in seven days, which a extra game wedged in would do.

Seeding by winning percentage, would still hurt us. Like I said before, if we go 12-3 and another team goes 13-3 and if we beat them, they would still be seeded higher based on winning percentage.
We will play the schedule as determined by the conference. Then, right before the tournament, the conference will establish the bracket, accordingly.

…sheesh.
