Game Thread Lady Vols vs East Tennessee State

it says that she got her point across. Regardless of what anonymous nothings say on a message board, these girls respect and admire holly, and i think they realized their continued careless, lackadaisical play had frustrated and angered her to the breaking point. They didn't play better because holly wasn't coaching them; they played better because they knew they had disappointed her and so they started doing what they should have been doing all along.

I don't care if she quit coaching or not during the game.

But I thought the majority of coaching took place during practice. Games are managed by calling timeouts, making substitutions, and adjusting tactics as needed. A coach that is constantly telling the players what to do during a game runs a risk of either overloading the players with too much information at a time they need to be acting instinctively or having the players tune it out so they can "just play".

I don't know if any of that happened here, but most basketball coaching should occur during practice.

I do think that when Holly sat on the bench and didn't help her team, that they understood that she was pissed at there lack of play and was mad as hell with them, hopefully that point will stay with them

Wonder if ivy is still loving Holly after this one. Like I said, the noise, internal and external, will continue to intensify....

The point Holly got over to the team was short lived. The 18 to 21 year olds of today, nothing seems to stick.

I listened to Holly's post game interview. She seemed to be very frustrated with the team and their playing effort. She stated that she could not put her finger on the problem. I wonder if anyone ever thought that the main issue is that she is too close to the program without any outside experience. The offense we see has the same issues that the Lady Vols had when Pat was at the helm. The outside shooting might have been a little better under Pat but I do not think it was that much better. The difference is that Pat had physical post players and a fair mid range game. Holly has the horses to change the offense but can she? Maybe things will get better when all hands are on deck. Yesterday Notre Dame was short on players but stayed in the game, against UCONN, on outside shooting. We need help no matter which side of the head coach you stand.

The thing that boggles my mind is that Holly knows that teams are gonna come at Tennessee with a zone, and they still can't buy one from behind the arc and spend the whole game turning it over trying to force it to Russell/Graves inside. Is she not practicing 3-pt shooting and instructing the players to be ready to shoot when the defense collapses, or is she too busy yelling "DEFENSE! INSIDE-OUT!!!!!"

On at least 5 or 6 occasions, the player that was supposed to be guarding Andraya had her back to her and was watching either Graves or Russell. One would think that Andraya would take this as a cue to cut to the basket for possibly an uncontested layup or a chance to draw in some defenders away from the post players so she could dish for an easy score. But instead, she stood there waiting for the ball so she could play hot potato on the perimeter or turn the ball over trying to pass through a triple team to Russell. Why the hell isn't Holly calling a time out and straightening that sh!t up?

Because that is what Holly tells them to do. That's the problem. I have been a supporter but I getting weary of her coaching now.

When Simmons was in Knoxville, there were at least 4-5 times per game when I'm pretty sure the collective Tennessee fanbase and coaching staff stood up and yelled, "NO MEIGHAN NO YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!"

Simmons knew when to take things into her own hand and make the play, which Warlick wasn't going to criticize if she made the shot. Carter needs to have that same instinct. I would have to think that Holly would be happier with Andraya ignoring her bellows of "Inside out....INSIDE OUT!!!!!!" and scoring when she's open than she would be when she turns the ball over trying to thread the needle between 3 maroon jerseys.
