Game Thread: Lady Vols v MTSU, Away, Thurs. Nov 20th, 7:30PM, ESPN+

I can't tell y'all how pleased I am with what I've seen out of the Pauldos and Civil - straight up ballers, those 3. Prawl looks like she's about to click as well.
A new alignment last night had Cooper playing the point and Mia and Mya the two guard. The twins were superior three point shooters in high school. Not doing that well yet in first five game think they will get it going as the year progresses.

No other team in the country is playing UConn, UCLA, South Carolina, LSU, Texas, Louisville, Stanford, Ole Miss, and Kentucky in the same season. That is 1,2,3,4. and 5 ranked.

Not to mention our “cup cake” games are mostly teams who are highly likely to win their respective conferences and have 20+ wins.

The product we saw against MTSU was a lot better than what we saw against Belmont. We had more energy and mostly kept our heads in the game. That being said we are still a little ragged and sometimes out of control. That may be many things that will correct itself as long as this group plays together. We have to also look at the fact that we are missing two key players, Whitehorn and Latham, who would have gotten significant time on the floor by this time. A lot of the two players’ time is taken up by freshman who are just getting use to the speed of the college game. I hope Latham is back next game. But the freshman are learning and improving with every game. As Kim says, it is a work in progress.

Can I interest you in WIN SHARES? Win Shares (WS) is a basketball statistic that estimates how many wins a player contributes to their team over a season by combining their offensive and defensive contributions. The sum of a player's offensive and defensive win shares gives their total win shares, which, when added together for all players on a team, should roughly equal the team's total wins.

They’re really young this season. He knew they didn’t have much chance last night but I don’t think he expected to get his butt beat quite like that at home. He looked perplexed and slack jawed all night.

Daddy’s special boy was freaking out the entire game.

At one point they put in the big girl #13 for just a minute. When she came out Matt had her stand there to say something to her but he never once looked at her and had the NASTIEST look on his face. I just happened to notice the interaction and it looked incredibly immature and unprofessional. She went back to her seat with her head down. Not how you build confidence in a freshman who literally played 2 minutes.

Civil can be a big key to this team. Kim said there were a couple of players she was trying to hold back. Civil needs more playing time so she can get settled in. She is just too hyper and using too much energy when not necessary . I love what I think she can bring.

I like how Kin is addressing the strength of schedule. 1-5 plus those others are a huge bump in SoS. They need to get their offense going.

Anyone else think the refs call some of these strange fouls because they are winded by the tempo? No t sure if it affects their judgment or they think calling something will stop their lungs from burning.

With this offense the refs can definitely intervene and disrupt the tempo.
100%.

Finally watched game defense just swarmed lady raiders. Offense was good but yes little more patience would lead to a better shot. But when you ask these ladies to play so hard every moment of Game and they do i can live with a few 3's. Considering we had to kickoff a veteran double digit scorer and another experienced player in system is off for personal reasons and a key portal addition has not contributed what this staff is doing with such inexperienced players in this system is more impressive than some of you are giving credit. Still much growth to come as a team and when we play the top 5 teams in the country we will be tested and awarded by season's end. In CHRIST Alone

I think I get the concept, but can you explain more? Like, I see the WS numbers for the team add up to 4.3 and our record is 4-1. So how do the WS numbers correlate to games played, and do they claim to project for future games?

And can their predictive accuracy be augmented by utilizing magic 8-ball?

One other thing the play by Cooper in 4th it was easy bucket &1 and not even close to a offensive foul. Refs had some sympathy calls. In CHRIST Alone

Yes, I also think a few were anticipation calls. They aren’t expecting the athleticism she has to avoid the foul and they blow the whistle prematurely.

Yeah. I’m a little worried about how we’ve been officiated so far. Feels like we’ve gotten a lot of bad calls and have let it get to us. Hopefully you’re right and it’s just the refs having sympathy for some overmatched underdogs and not something that persists into the more competitive games later.

Yes me too. But officials in our league are really bad at there job they either let the game go beyond in physical play you should allow or they call every touch foul never consistent. In CHRIST Alone

I think that's one of the elephants in the room. Perhaps we got away with a lot more last year because we had seasoned guards that knew how to get away with things. I don't know they are calling things any differently but it's hard to imagine them greatly affecting us in a 44 point win. Kim had a firm discussion ole black hair didn't like and I've not seen her engage at that level so we aren't the only ones not pleased with the level of officiating. If the draw is not good enough to provide fit officials, maybe officials need to work on their cardio?

I would rather see the ladies go 5/10 from mid range than 1/13 from 3 .... People get so caught up into the 3 point shot... Michigan State (Men) made it to the Elite 8 last season and were a mid range ,drive to basket team.. if people love this new age jack up the three's era. More power to you...

The "mid-range" point is just as much about getting the ball into the paint as it is about 3s. The best shot on the court is in the paint, the next best is a 3 pointer, and a long 2 is the worst.

Last year Talaysia had the 2nd worst Points/Attempt of the team (only ahead of Sara amongst qualified Vols) and a big part of it was her insistence on taking mid-ranges, and even doing so early in the shot clock! [Cooper's PPSA was 0.9 in conference play, Tess was 1.0, Latham and Zee 1.07, Jillian 1.11, Kaniya 1.13, Jewel 1.29]
