Yes there were many plus and minuses. Offense gets a C. I don't know if Eric's finger was stopping him from going long but when it's 3rd and 12 two times in a row and you throw underneath to back, bad decesion. Eric had good numbers and played good but you have to throw the long ball every now and then to keep the defense honest.Adrian had a great game.
Defense get a D+. They did stop Cal and get the ball back for the offense but there was no pressure at all.Bad tackling and it seems like we never have a defensive back field that can cover anyone one on one.
I think we're in for a long season again.

He's been on the team for almost 4 years now and people still can't spell his name right. ERIK!

We knew that getting pressure on Longshore was a key to the game...perhaps the key to the game. When I saw that we weren't doing that, I knew we were in trouble - as I'm sure all of you did. Their offensive line was supposed to be pretty good (or so I heard) .. and they manned up. Did our D-line lay down?

Also, I was not as impressed with our O-line as I had hoped to be. Their D-line is atrocious and they looked pretty good against our line.

This is all so much bull! Under any other circumstances 31 points would get you a win. How can anybody criticize the offense when the defense gives up 45! How many times do we let teams like Cal, LSU, Fla, et al come back and beat us because of Chavis? Fix the defense and 31 points will be a win instead of a loss!

Special Teams- D- we had a good kick return and didnt miss any extra points. We also didnt make any tackles

Defense- F no sacks, no pressure, & no meaningful turnovers. Add to that with some bad tackling against the best offense in the country and you get 45 pts rolled up on you.

Offense -A we looked alot like the colts out there, just without Reggie Wayne. But Lucas Taylor played a heck of a game

Aside from the arguable calls and throws on 3rd (and 4th), I think you have to look more positively on our offense. I really think we were one poor throw to Taylor in the endzone away from an A-.

The defense, OTOH, is very concerning. We will, for sure, face more physical offenses in the SEC, and we got outmanned by Cal. No pressure on Longshore, no interior line presence on the run, and poor, poor tackling. For Tennessee, this is about as bad as we've looked in the modern era on D. A grade? F. No question.

The Special Teams continue to be, well. . . . ."special." IMO, if you want to fault the coaching staff, this is where you start. It's not exactly a surprise that we performed poorly, and it's an area that (supposedly) has been addressed. It's going to be a very long year if we're going to give our opponents the 40 yard line on kickoffs and can't cover punts (or put it out of bounds as instructed). One decent return (that Foster gave up on) brings my grade up to a D.

A lot of teams must have suddenly dropped football.
