I would, for no other reason than to say I had been, though. The logistics, as previously mapped out, would leave for a horrible view of the field. You'd be better watching it on your granny's 19 inch TV.

The tradition of our home games at Neyland stadium should not be for sale to the highest bidder.

UT football should be above this.

If our athletic department is in such need of money why don't they start by clearing some of the deadwood out of the Athletic Director's office.

I am totally and strongly opposed to this Idea.

I would say Yes, I would go. I know it's important to have the home games at Neyland BUT, I also think if you can make as much money on 1 game as you do for all the other 6-7 home games it only makes sense. Also with all the networks killing to be able to air that game being there would be something like 150-200,000 people in attendance It seems crazy not to jump at the chance. Hamilton said a football game at Neyland brings in 3-4 million......Were talking 20 Million bucks here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yahoo: Maybe after that we could send the WHOLE band to the FL,LSU type road trips :dunno:

No argument from me there. Home games are at Neyland.

otoh, a 'nuetral site' match at Bristol between VaTech and UT, ala the Fla/Ga game at Jacksonville, could be a good thing.
So who has 'the largest cocktail party now?

Any game of this nature would be taking away a home game though.

While VT/UT would be a better game than a home and home or a buyout of a mid-major it also provides you with another tough opponent out of conference and in reality would be taking away a home game.

I don't like either of those scenarios.

I think it would be fun, so I would go. It's not like this is about playing at BMS every year. It's just one game. Tech is interested in doing that along with a home and away against UT. While I enjoy every home game at Neyland, I don't see much harm in doing something like this one time.

If it's just one game, I see no reason why it couldn't be scheduled in place of an non-conference away game. We're playing Notre Dame on the road this year. What difference would it make if it's VaTech?
It's just another quality road win for us. :dance2:

I've already let my feelings be known at the athletic department. It may not have as much influence as 20 million dollars but I think it sets a bad precedent.

Some things should be more valuable than money.

If we do this, that's the only reason. We've refused it for all the other reasons for years: VT is a great OOC opponent, it will set a new attendance record, it will be good for recruiting (maybe, if we win, if we lose then we just lost in the biggest football venue of all time) it provides a national audience (like we have a problem with visability).

I just don't like it.

You're probably right.

We've turned this down almost every year for 15 years.

But now we're going to do it for money.

Bad!

Wasn't that the biggest reason that UT always turned it down? If you ask me, accepting it for the money is no worse than turning down the venue because of money. What's the real difference there?

I'm just speaking for me here, but it would be nice to only have a 10 minute drive to the game. Can't I have that just once? :p

Hey, get a motel on Friday night and that cures that problem. :D

Yeah, but I still have a 2 hour drive at some point. It's no biggie, I would travel to the end of the world to watch the Vols play.

My thinking with this whole Chokie thing is this. I live in an area dominated by both Tennessee and Chokie fans. I'm really tired of hearing the Hokie fans say that UT is scared to play them. It should be the other way around, but Tech is for playing UT anytime anywhere.

If they don't play at BMS......fine with me, but I would like to see them play a home and away at some point.

It would be neat just to say we had 240,000 people at one of our games, but the view would suck from most if not all of the seats.

I have heard the AD from UT talk about this on the radio a few months back and from listening to him talk I would have to say that it will not happen.

That was before the $20 million was in play though. Hamilton himself has even said he would consider it for that much money.

How would they even do this? I know Bristol is a small racetrack, but it's still way larger than a football stadium. If they played the game in the infield of the track, it seems to me that the game would be a rumor if you were sitting in the grandstands.

If you are familiar with Smith, you would know that he will do anything he has to. He has even offered to demolish new buildings they built in the turns in order to have the game there.

Not only do I think they ought to do this game once, but every year as a home and away game. It's history and tradition in the making. It could be biggest non-bowl college football event in history and could help TN become a media darling. Corporate sponsors will be chomping at the bit to get in on this one. Recruiting?... hey kid, want to play before the largest crowd in the WORLD to see a football game? I don't see any negative to this one except for the inconvienence it brings to the Geritol crowd whom hate to disrupt thier regular routines. I'm sure that something special can be worked out for the season ticket holders. I would suspect that if it is a success, that Bristol will be putting in bids to become the next BCS member. If I were TN though, I would make sure that there was a clause in the contact that guaranteed that only TN gets the right to first consideration for a game played in Bristol. We don't want to see SC vs VT playing on our turf in the future making 20mil. Spurrier would love that!

Nineteen replies to this nut ball idea! There is no way UT moves a home game to BMS. Circus quality pregame hype aside, absolutely no one would enjoy viewing this game. Not the fans in attendance(lines of sight that would make you feel as though you were sputnik orbiting the earth). Not the TV viewers at home(no way to get the camera angles you discriminating fans are rightly accustomed to). And not the players(complete seperation from the fans, playing on a makeshift field plopped down in the middle of an asphalt jungle). This idea has "please, it ain't worth it" written all over it....

20 mil speaks a language all it's own, but I am absolutely against this idea.

God love ya TBall, but I'm on the other side of the post on this!

Bring it on baby.....they could then afford to also take the ENTIRE band to the Florida and LSU games!!!!! Not just a pep band! If all you want is to hear Rocky Top in the stands and not see the band march at half-time.....take a HUGE P.A. System!!!!

No I haven't, so I don't even pretend to know what the setup would look like. Just thinking through it though. . .

It's a half mile track. Most tracks around football fields are a quarter mile, so I would imagine that regardless of where you sit, you'd be at least twice as far from the action.

The only thing I can think of to compare it to is some footage that I've seen where UCLA played Houston in basketball one time on a platform set up in the middle of the Astrodome.

Are some of you guys kidding me? WE have an opportunity to bring in 20 million for our athletic program and school.......on top of being the largest game venue EVER for football.... We would have a huge non conference rival (which is close) and it gives us a rival that can give us competition for many years to come.....of course its a great idea.....The sightlines will be fine.....apparently he is willing to do whatever it takes to get the game @ Bristol.....I would love even to set up a rivalry there year in year out with Tech......I'm personally tired of hearing those turkeyheads gobble about how they can beat us and how we are afraid to play them......my opinion it happens in the next 5 years.....and im excited!!! :dance2: :dance2:
