'20 GA QB Harrison Bailey (UT SIGNEE)

Bailey isn't starting next year, JMO. I don't think Pruitt nor Chaney want to throw a true freshmen into the fire, which is why they were so hesitant to play Maurer. If JG continues to improve, he is your starting QB.

Pruitt: šŸ¤”
Pruitt: *starts freshman all over the field*

if you want to win, you play the best players, it should not matter if they are seniors or freshmen.

I very clearly said "If JG continues to improve." Bailey's high school numbers mean nothing to me. And they won't mean anything to Pruitt either. True freshmen very rarely win the starting job over a redshirt senior whose had the job for 3 years. If Bailey does, then all my congratulations to him. That would be quite the feat.

I mean a QB is a completely different scenario than a freshmen WR or LB. QB is the most important position on the field.
That is why the player who gives us the best chance to win will play the most. That doesnā€™t mean that player will start.. JG gave us the best chance to win during the last half of the yer, but he came off the bench to carry us to the 7-5 season. HB has more talent than any other QB we Will have next year, but will have less experience. I would not be surprised to see him play a lot the last half of the season if the more experienced QBs are not leading us to wins.

Iā€™ll be that guy. I donā€™t think Bailey is all that. Let me make this clear: I want him to be the second coming of Peyton Manning and then some.

But I donā€™t know what yā€™all are talking about with him going through reads and progressions. He knows absolutely who heā€™s throwing to before every snap, and itā€™s almost always to the guy thatā€™s a foot taller and 50 lbs heavier than the ones covering him. He has protection from offensive line with two Power-5 commits. Receivers are going to LSU, Michigan State, and Boston College. Running back going to Colorado State. They are absolutely stacked. Of course theyā€™re going to put up cartoon numbers. When pressured even a little bit, his accuracy drops dramatically, but again, heā€™s bailed out by Gilbert and company. When the playing field is leveled, and everybody has 3, 4, 5 stars, I wonder how his decision making and accuracy will be. I hope heā€™s the man and wins us several national championships. But those of yā€™all calling for him to start from day 1 are probably setting yourselves up for disappointment, as it looks like he could really use a redshirt year before he takes the field and leads us back to the promised land.

I agree, I have my doubts he starts day 1. But he has the tools, of that there is not doubt. Any ticks he has in HS can be corrected by Weinke and Chaney.

To set the record straight, Josh Booty was the #1 overall recruit for the 1994 signing class and Manning was ranked #2. Proves the recruiting services have been getting it wrong for years!
Just like Donnie Davis who went to Georgia Tech was rated higher than Heath Shuler in the 1991 recruiting class

Usually this is true, but with elite talent you make exceptions.

You can easily make an argument that ILB is the most important position on the defense, and #11 was fantastic for us there all year.

Not saying Bailey will be elite immediately, but heā€™s ranked right around Toā€™otoā€™o so itā€™s definitely far from impossible.

Wouldnā€™t be hard at all to see him being impressive enough to jump in and start right away, and it also wouldnā€™t be a bad thing if he has to wait a year.

For some reason I expected this thread to be a conspiracy theory stating Jake Fromm was gonna become a grad transfer to UT

Which is precisely why you need to escort JG to the door as quickly as possible.

You mean the QB who won you 6 of your last 7 games? The QB who relieved Maurer in the 2nd half of the Kentucky game and completely changed our offense? The QB who threw for 415 yards just two weeks ago against Missouri?

It's time to get over this inane hatred of a player who hasn't had the same OC throughout his first 4 seasons. I hope JG wins the job next year and proceeds to throw for 4,000 yards just to give all these haters a hernia.

People who still hate on JG are just dicks at this point.
I donā€™t hate on JG, and have not the first time. Bottom line! He is NOT good enough to take Tennessee to the next level. He holds the ball too long and he canā€™t even throw a swing pass.

I don't hate Guarantano. I hate horrible starting QB's that cause UT to consistently under-perform. While he is not alone, JG is the most recent example.

Yes he missed on every swing pass in a game he threw for 415 yds in against one of the best pass defenses in the country. No, I don't think he will lead us to a title next year. Neither would any SEC returning QB's. But I do think he can lead us to 9-11 wins.

No need in moving goal posts now. Fromm is a ā€pocket passerā€. Beyond that, Bo Nix, Hilinski, and guys all over the country. Itā€™s the new tread because of the portal regardless if we like it or not.
Very weak argument. Hilinski played because the starter got hurt, Fromm won the job. Again, if Bailey wins the job that is great. I would rather see a pocket passer develop for a year in the system and then have 4 to play.

My argument is solid. You want to keep glossing over the fact that true freshmen QBs are starting more and more all over CFB. Fact.

The question is whether he is ready for an SEC defense with no experience and are we better off redshirting a future 3 or 4 year starter. Only one person has questioned his talent. Mauer will not roll over either...he has swagger.

Fromm didn't win the job. Eason got hurt, then Fromm played lights out.

Iā€™m hearing Gruden coming in as a QB coach and Fromm coming in as a grad transfer. Itā€™s pretty much a done deal.

Some people in here acting like HB is some bum because he doesnā€™t have any college experience. While that is true, we havenā€™t really seen any of our guys currently on roster just take the job at any point this season. In a perfect world HB would ride pine for a year but we arenā€™t in that position currently. Weā€™ve had over 20 true freshmen play this season because they had too. And there will be another large group of freshman playing next year.

I understand the college experience argument up to a point. But this kid has played every single game from the time he was a freshman, barring injury in 7A football in Georgia and (I know) but heā€™s also taken rep after rep in 7v7 Since forever. So itā€™s not like this kid hasnā€™t been playing against some of the best talent in the country for years. I hope someone steps up next year and solidifies the QB spot, but if not, I have no problem rolling with this kid.
