hi, I am new to this and have just decided to upgrade my asus 266 to GA-K8NS socket 939, and bid for and won this motherboard. My question is: what type of hdd do I have to have now, and are there any other changes I need to make. I also got the cpu- amd athlon 64 3800+. Should I have got a different board or is this one good value for money?

Is ths your motherboard? because if it is, it's socket 754 not 939. gigabyte's naming convention leaves a lot to be desired.

the short answer to your question is this:

other than cpu and motherboard, you need to replace everything.

If he has a decent size HDD, whether is is SATA or IDE, I don't see why he would need to go ahead and replace that...

that's true, but given the age of his system (or apparent age, "Asus 266" isn't very specific) a new hard drive is in order. hard drives are pretty cheap now anyway.
