GA fans are horrible winners/losers.

Let me preface this. I've been an avid SEC fan all my life. I've had season tickets in the past at Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. Been to just about every stadium in the conference and several rivalry games for different schools.

Now that I've said that, let me rant a second. I took my wife and two kids to the game today. Wife and 3 year old are Georgia fans (we live here in GA). My son and I TN fans. The 3 year old was in her cheerleading outfit. Son was in a TN shirt and hat. I've never seen such terrible fans in all my life. I've been to several GA games and their fans are just the absolute nastiest in the conference. We were cursed at, screamed at, given one finger salutes, and even had a GA fan approach me screaming expletives while I had my daughter on my shoulders and my son clinging to my shirt while we tried to escape Athens.

I guess we are big rivals to them, but I don't include them in my top two or three the other way around. I suppose they have a lot of resentment built up towards TN in general. I suppose it doesn't help that we rape and pillage their in state recruits or that we have had their number for a while.

What is it that makes them so terrible?

My wife and I decided to see a TN game at every SEC stadium EXCEPT FL. Our first trip was to Athens. We left at halftime and have never attended another outside Neyland.

I was in Athens for the game and tailgated with friends before the game, who are all UGA grads and also went to the game. I pretty much lucked out on tickets which were given to me by my future father in law, who is a GA fan. We sat in the visitors section, about three rows back from the pride of the southland. Make a long story short, I wasn't anyone's favorite after the game. All of my UGA friends were butt hurt so bad, they just left me after the game and i had to hike all the way back to our tail gate spot. The only run in i had with a GA fan was with some degenerate who called me a ***** for wearing orange. I told him it was 2016 and that we hadn't use terms like that since the 90s.

In the long run ya'll, us beating those dirty a#$ dawgs in the very end, UGA fans deserve every bit of it.

I took this picture from back in July while living in Augusta. I saw it today and got a big laugh from it. Also, they predicted A&M to finish last in the west?

I have been going to away games with college roomates for about the last 10 years. Last year was Bama. Most of the fans were pretty good until they started that Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer crapola. I looked at one of them and said "really"? And he looked at me and shrugged and said "Yeah, I know, but it's tradition". I thought that was pretty classy.

We've had great experiences in:
Auburn (the eagle coming out of the stands is uber cool)
Arkansas. Beautiful area.
The Grove is amazing.
South Carolina except that we left because we were 2 TDs down and it was freezing. with 4 mins left (We all know how THAT turned out.) Never again will I leave until :00.

The only one I won't step foot in is Florida. Never. Ever. I live here and the redneck ratio there is off scale high.

I like your wording "They do less with more". That's why they fired a respected coach like Richt who won an avg of 10 games a year, but never an SEC championship with the 2nd best material in the league (behind Al). Time will tell if Kirby is the smart hire they think he is.

Richt won SEC twice - 2002 & 2005

I can only speak for myself but Saturday was my second trip to Athens, the first being two years ago. I didn't have a single unpleasant experience with a Georgia fan on either trip.

This last trip my grown son and I were surrounded by Georgia fans, mainly alums there with their families. A couple of them shook our hands when we got there and said "Welcome to Athens." We happily switched seats one row back to let a family of Georgia fans sit together. The dad wanted to treat us to concessions to thank us, which I refused of course.

For our part, we were polite and respectful and complimented them on their campus and stadium, etc., which I think helps set the tone. And although we celebrated, we didn't act like jackasses when Tennessee made a big play. We acted like guests in their home who share a common love of college football.

Two years ago we sat with a whole gaggle of Georgia students who were drunker than Cooter Brown (and even me). They cracked us up the whole game and even invited us to a frat party afterwards.

I do see poor behavior from time to time at games, including from Tennessee fans. I'm thankful my dad taught me how to act at games. I tried to pass this down to my three kids and I think I succeeded.

Maybe these notions are outdated and quaint, and maybe the bad experiences the OP and others related here are just another example of the overall decline in civility our society has experienced. The only thing I can suggest is try to set a good example yourself and hope it rubs off.

(I'm sorry for this long post and I'm not even sure what my point was now, but this is a topic I've thought about a lot and wanted to make some observations.)
