I think it should be acknowledged that if they were elite evaluators, they wouldn’t be at On3

Not necessarily true. Barton is a top 10 GM in cfb and he came from 247. Power worked under Barton and then spent a decade scouting juco guys. Cody Bellaire (ON3) is tapped in and helped build the national championship team at LSU. Also has recently worked for Baylor, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech including director roles. Cooper Petagna had director roles at Cincinnati, Michigan, Washington, and Oregon before going to 247.
The evaluators are qualified people. Each site has its bias with what they prefer and locations as well as having to play some politics. I will say it is important to remember national rankings are in a vacuum and obviously certain players fit real life programs differently. The problem is when you work in a vacuum, it becomes more so an obsession with traits than good players, especially when you see like how many guys from Florida 247 rates super high (both their top people are in Florida). And those guys don't ever do anything bc they are just small and fast and nothing else. Can run a combine event with ease. 247 also values length/size (pause) to no limit, even to their detriment (why guys like Boo Carter and Tyreek King are three stars). On3 is obsessed with projection so you will see them put super raw guys with traits/versatility high that are also young for their class.
Combine events are very important but they don't win SEC/B10 football games. Camp circuits are becoming pretty good, but at the end of the day those events should back up the play. Programs like getting kids from the state of Georgia because they have good size and athleticism to contribute and they typically hit. They play the best competition in the country nearly every week, are developed right, and know how to impact winning at the highest level (i.e. Ty Redmond starting as a freshman in the SEC despite being a 3 star).
I've said this a handful of times, but national recruiting rankings are like fantasy football rankings. You should definitely consider them, but also understand the context that comes with each one and who's rankings they are. The coaches opinions on actual teams obviously matter far more, but the rankings do hold weight in the preseason when projecting the season a player could do. Some breakouts are overblown and look bad in retrospect, some guys you expect to fall off just keep producing and that looks bad on their part in retrospect. It is what it is, but you generally need to hit toward the top of your class
