'25 GA CB Jontae Gilbert

From Rivals:

Ohio State landed a commitment from Gilbert in late July and there is no real reason for the Buckeyes to be super concerned at this point, but a visit to Tennessee does make things interesting.

Does the Atlanta Douglass four-star cornerback want to play in the SEC? Will he see a lot of excitement in a Tennessee program that beat Alabama and Clemson last year? After this weekend, we should know a lot more.

From Rivals:

The message from the Tennessee staff over the weekend was that Gilbert was wanted in its defense, needed in the Vols’ defense and that they’re going to do everything to flip him from Ohio State. Whether that happens or not is yet to be determined but the 2025 four-star safety from Atlanta (Ga.) Douglass does remain open to all schools although he’s still locked in with the Buckeyes.

It's early so I don't know how much of one we will ultimately be but we will be a player here coming out of the visit. We are at the disadvantage of trying to get him to change a decision he already made to commit elsewhere but there is plenty of time left in this recruitment obviously. Ohio State is Ohio State so it won't be easy but he is planning on coming back for a spring practice and sometime this summer so that's a very good sign

Tennessee is making a serious and concerted push to flip the 2025 four-star defensive back from Ohio State and the word is that the Vols’ pitch is influencing Gilbert’s recruitment at this point. Committed to Ohio State since the summer, Tennessee defensive coordinator Tim Banks is the point man in this recruitment and the Atlanta (Ga.) Douglass standout is listening as Georgia is also getting more involved.

The 2025 four-star cornerback from Atlanta (Ga.) Douglass has been committed to Ohio State since late July but the Buckeyes are going to have significant pressure to keep Gilbert in that recruiting class. He wore Tennessee gloves at the OT7 Phoenix two weekends ago and the Vols are definitely a major contender with Georgia and now Alabama after the Crimson Tide offered in recent days. Getting complimented by coach Nick Saban was a huge part of his visit and Alabama is definitely in this now.

Gilbert has been committed to Ohio State since July but that hasn’t stopped him from taking multiple trips. He’s had many conversations with the Buckeyes' coaching staff about these trips and they are all on the same page.

Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Alabama and Georgia are all schools that he’s taking a close look at. He got an up-close look at South Carolina for its spring game. Gilbert really loved the atmosphere there and had a great time bonding with defensive backs coach Torrian Gray and head coach Shane Beamer. Gray and Ohio State defensive backs coach Tim Walton are the two coaches he feels closest with right now.

One name in 2025 that keeps coming up is defensive back Jontae Gilbert. The top-50 prospect committed to Ohio State early, but other schools haven’t quit recruiting him. While it is early, there is reason to believe the Vols are a threat for him right now. He has reiterated that he feels like a priority to Willie Martinez and Josh Heupel.

Tennessee looks to be the biggest threat to flip Gilbert from Ohio State and his recent visit back to Knoxville could be the impetus if anything is going to happen. The 2025 four-star defensive back from Atlanta (Ga.) Douglass continues to take visits with NC State and UNC visits over the weekend, USC soon and then Alabama later this month. But it feels like the Vols have made tremendous inroads.”- Rivals

Think we steal this one honestly.

One prospect that will be back to Tennessee at the end of the month when things open back up is four-star 2025 DB Jontae Gilbert. He has been a routine visitor on Rocky Top over the last six months or so despite his long-time commitment to Ohio State. As expected for any younger recruit, he seems to enjoy each visit he takes to various schools, but the Vols seem to have some staying power in this one. He has built a strong relationship with Willie Martinez and defensive analyst Earnest Thomas III.
