G4 not going away after all?

What a mess. On top of that, a lot of good folks lost their jobs. As goofy as XPlay and AOTS were, I enjoyed them and I'm sure plenty of other folks enjoyed it.

During this whole season of Ninja Warrior I've been confused by the advertisements. Commericals said G4, banners on the course said Esquire. What a sorry mess this ended up being.

That said, there's been a couple new programs being advertised as being on Esquire that looked interesting. One was a throw down cooking show that looked good.

Too much trouble to try and find that show now.

Wonder if those shows will be brought back now?

Doubt it; everyone involved in those shows have moved on to other stuff, plus the main guys like Sessler and Pereira left back in the spring of 2012. And the article I read stated they had no plans for any new original programming.

Basically the only reason they went with Style is it has a better channel position on most cable packages; so this wasn't a case of "saving" G4. My guess is it will just kind of exist for a while, showing old shows and reruns of X-Play and AOTS and then be retired for another channel.

Even though the channel was never as good as Tech TV, I still miss G4 from a few years ago when it still had a lot of video game/techy shows. Like Code Monkeys, Cinematech, and they used to have "Behind the Music" type shows about video games and video game industry people and companies.

I haven't watched it for almost a year, and a few weeks ago I was getting a filling at the dentist. They have the TVs you can watch, so I was flipping around and stopped on G4. They were showing an episode of X-Play from almost a year ago. The big story was a preview of Assassin's Creed 3.

Looks like G4 is finally dead, for reals now. It's still technically a channel and on some smaller cable providers, but I believe by now all the major cable providers have phased the channel out.

Comcast was the last major one to still have it and I read that it had announced it was dropping in January 2014. My in-laws have Comcast and we stayed a few days over Christmas and they still had it then. I watched it a while and it was mostly just reruns of Lost and Heroes. We had to go back this past weekend and I turned it to G4 and the channel was no longer available.

So I guess RIP G4.
