No matter where he lined up, NU's OL couldn't keep Barnett out of their backfield.

Give Nebraska some credit though. They cut the deficit to 7 with 10 minutes to play. Fyfe completed some big throws to Reilly who was a very good receiver with their top receiver out. Their defense may not have been great, but it was the 23rd best statistically in the nation this year. They have a great fan base that made the trip, and their team never quit despite falling behind from the start.

Their coach praised Dobbs for making great throws on time, and scrambling out of tough situations to make huge plays on his own. He said that Tennessee had too many playmakers to contain. One Nebraska defender said the backups seemed to him as good as the starters at RB and WRs.

Was there ever any mention of attendance figures?

I wasn't overly impressed with the defense, but they were playing a quality opponent and played pretty solid. That QB was dead meat on almost every play and played a heck of a game, including that WR.

Anyone notice that when Moseley or Foreman actually play awesome coverage the WR still makes amazing catches? I'm starting to think our entire secondary has been cursed.

Yeah. Reilly had the height advantage on both of them and lot of those slingshot throws from Fyfe would be just beyond their reach and just within Reilly's reach. Relieved that Barnett put so much pressure on him. He was pretty accurate and a strong arm to boot.

Ok, so I know this post may not belong in this thread, but here is my thinking, if we don't lose to SCe or the Commode-ers, we would have ended up 10-2 versus 8-4, right? We would have then gone to the SECC game and lost, so 10-3. Then, we would have likely gone to the Sugar Bowl against Oklahoma--then, very likely 10-4. We now have ended up 9-4 without all that drama. Is that so bad? Flame away.

Nothing wrong with drama. I'd take the SECG and Sugar Bowl naturally, but those are all predicated on what would have been. Not what was. So we have to live with what was and be glad we won the bowl game and finished 9-4 and not 8-5, which is what would have been, but yet wasn't.

Nobody was satisfied with losing to SC and Vandy obviously. Quite the opposite, most people vented over both of those games very vociferously and have for weeks. I did plenty myself. But I'm still glad we played well in the MCB and the players finished out on a positive experience. Is that so bad?

No, but I think that was my point. I must not have been clear.

Seemed like Fyfe was determined not to take a sack to the point of grounding ,fumble or throwing a pick 6 -- it didnt seem to matter to him, as long as he didnt take the record breaking sack -- he almost went down on his own before DB got credit for the sack

Had just a few plays gone different at yell leader U, that could have been a win. And suppose we had a great deal fewer injuries on Bama week. Maybe we win, maybe we don't, but maybe that is the game of the year.

Point is you and I can sit back and throw up all sorts of whatever scenarios. It won't change a thing. But I guarantee you the players and coaches will be thinking about them long after you and I move on from it to other things.

And you can flame all you want. Not my kinda thing.

I thought the same thing. I was thinking sometimes he made dangerous decision a couple times thinking I'm not letting this guy break that record on me.

That left tackle was going to hold until the refs stopped it, which never happened. So, I really think that is why the coaches slid him to the other side. Fyfe didn't catch it. Hell, I don't think any of the Nebraska guys noticed. I think he went down because he realized too late Barnett had him dead to rights.

So in 3 years, Barnett beat a record it took one of the, if not THE greatest DE in football history 4 years to set. I wonder how many scout have figured it out. For Derek's sake, I kinda hope Cleveland doesn't. But if it means he goes number 1? I think their owner is well aware of it.

I've seen a couple of talking heads intimate that Myles Garret will and should be drafted ahead of Barnett. Not buying it myself, but Cleveland did have scouts at his bowl game. Not sure how I would feel about that. Disappointed because I didn't get first pick money, or relieved that I'm not going to Cleveland.

had not been in this game, the outcome would have been different.
He was a one man terror. He reaked havock on the NU offense the whole game. He "Barnett" gave them a major head ache.
The NU offense could not get in rhythm because Barnett was in their FACE the whole game.

Before Barnetts sack I told a friend that I think his performance was one of the best I've ever seen without getting a sack. The numbers didn't show just how disruptive he was being all game. That QB was scared of him by the end.
