It would be nice to see Tennessee go after a boy who is a dual threat....

I think if we had a quarterback who could throw the ball most importantly but also be able to get out of situations if he gets pressured would be amazing.

I know there was some talks of Terrelle Pryor but that's a shot in the dark... We just need someone who is fast and can throw to come in here and try this new form of offense... Once we get that rolling then we could possibly bring in some big named recruit to lead it for us...

It might cost us a year getting better at the offense but it would be worth it in the long run..

Speed is the name of the game now in college....

Your Opinions?

Yeah, we'd have already won the Nat'l Championship this year if he had stayed!

Jon Crompton, then BJ Coleman. That's four years before we have to worry about another name.

This is my opinion.

agreed 100%.

If a 5-star stud wants to come here, so be it, but I don't think we should constantly hunt for guys, because eventually that will spell out badly for us in recruiting. Kids won't want to come here if we've proven we don't want to try to develop guys who have pledged UT as their school.

I think Crompton is perfectly capable of running the offense. He seems to be able to scramble pretty well also.

Not sure why, but I don't have a lot of faith in Crompton.
I see that a lot. Not sure why though, save the Arky game last year, which was not his fault. Jon has all the tools, and Cut believe's in him. BJ needs Jon to start for two years. But make no mistake, BJ is a true leader and a future great QB for the Vols...

I have no desire to have a running back at quarterback.

If the kid has the mindset to throw first and escape pressure only as a last result......that is the sort of running quarterback I would like.

Sort of like Troy Smith his Senior year, not his Junior.

I think Crompton did extremely well when he was thrown into the fire last year. We didn't win those games, but I wouldn't put the mantle of blame on a Freshman.

Crompton continuously did better than Ainge in scrimmages, for what that's worth. I think Crompton will do well next year, but I think he can really have a chance to come on huge his senior year. Jones, Paige and Moore will all have had time to develop and we could really have a lethal set of receivers for him. Not to mention Stocker.

i don't think you need a true "dual threat" so much as you need to have one that can move around in the pocket, and out of it if necessary.....

call me a homer, but i watch Ben R. for hte Steelers. No one is going to mistake him for VY or Mike Vick, but his pocket presence and his ability to move around has at times allowed big plays to happen.

it also was a necessity last weekend as he was being sacked 7 times.

so at the end of the day, give me a qb that has good feet, but always give me some freakin' pass protection.

crompton i think may be able to do some of that for us. he's a good enough athelete and has a big arm.

Sorry but I was joking. He did not have a good year at UT

He got hurt... If he would have been given time to develop I think he would have been a very decent quarterback...

He wasn't given a chance... Plus he got in trouble...

At Ole Miss I thought he did pretty well considering the talent he was surrounded by...

At Tennessee... He would have been great this yeat..

That is why I highlighted his name and made my comment.

:eek:k:

Agreed.... My bad..
I would just like someone who can move...
Someone who defenses have to worry about getting past them...
With Ainge,
If our receivers are covered all he can do is dump it off to the running back, or possible a slot receiver or throw it away...

I am excited to see Crompton though,

He did good against LSU last year...

He made his own chances at UT by acting like he did.

BS also got pulled at OM for bad play. How is that doing well?

Look at the talent around him at Ole Miss...

I'm not saying he was a superstar... but he would have developed his game more and been a dcent qb if he would have stayed at UT and had the chance to play..

Crompton has a cannon and didn't look horrible as a freshman, i'll take that over a QB who can run fast and has a mediocre arm anyday. If we need someone to run around, we could always use a running back. :p
see: brohm, brennan, ryan, ainge...
