So, I’m really frustrated by our o line play the last few years. Dobbs masked it while he was here, but it’s been a pretty underwhelming unit for a plethora of reasons for a long time it feels like.

The thing about the o line is, you can’t just go get freshmen that will be able to step in and play. Trey Smiths don’t exist every year, and even then they’re so rare that they’re tough to get at our current level.

So I’m looking for some optimism. What young guys on our current roster do you all see as being good as they develop? I truly believe with this staff player development will be much better. Is there a handful of guys who are just too young right now but we think can be part of a strong unit in the future?

OL will be better next year but DL will regress significantly based on who we lose UNLESS we win the JUCO lottery for one and done, NFL ready DL.

it will take a couple of years, gotta rotate em out and then give the new guys a couple of years

The reason to be optimistic is next year. By then they should have had enough time in the new S&C program for the results to show up on the field. UGA's o-line was pretty bad during Smart's first year and then looked completely different the next year. I expect to see similar improvement on both lines of scrimmage next season.

I don't put a lot of stock in freshmen, they usually need a year or two before there really good
Cade Mays starts for UGA and looks pretty damn good. Morris is already better than Mays. He could up being our best lineman next year, just like Trey Smith did as a true freshman.

sometimes one or two can do a decent job as a freshmen, but usually not,it is hard to say how good or bad they may be,i do hope they will be great players right off the bat,but I lean to them not being great there first year

Disagree about our DL....I don't think we'll lose a lot with Gooden, Emerson and the JUCOs Middleton and Williams coming in as DTs.
We'll certainly have SIZE at our DTs if nothing else....

You guys know we have a 5 star OL committed right? The top lineman in the country.

Plus another 4 star.
2 new freshmen to play next year? That’ll be a step backwards if that’s even humanly possible. Also, we’ve had 5 stars come in recently.....how has that worked out for us, other than Smith who was good as freshman, not so good as a sophomore and who now likely won’t play again.

I think we'll be ok, but losing Tuttle, Alexis Johnson, Bain, Phillips will be tough to replace but we have some big talented guys here and incoming so will be ok

Freshmen who can contribute, much less start, on either line are few and far between. Almost everyone has skill players. Quality lines with depth are what separates championship programs from the rest.

Well for 1 different type of players are being recruited now and we actually have a staff to coach them up and as far as Trey goes he played guard last year and tackle this year so he's playing out of position because he's a natural at guard, plus he was out nearly all of the off-season and spring training so there's that.

Our current lineman have gotten better. But they were so far behind to begin with that they need more than a year of strength training to get up to adequate.
Add some super talented Freshman to it and you now have some rotation and depth. Which means you can play more aggressive while having the energy to do so.

We'll actually be better as whole next year at OL.

Seems to be working out for Georgia.
