The newest helmet you'll see is the Riddel Revolution Speed:
Riddell: Product Detail

Schutt's newest model is called the Air XP that has the traditional shell, but updgraded interior protection:
Schutt Sports: Helmets - AiR XP

Schutt also makes the ION 4D which is worn by all Penn State Players:
Schutt Sports: Helmets - ION 4D

One style that you'll probably see in CFB in the future is the Xenith X1, which was designed by a former Harvard football player:
Xenith

i like the first schutt and the xenith, but not the other two.I hate the helmet that every gator wears(revolution or tebow or harvin). I like the robot(berry) way better than revo.

alll of those helmets are badass, i dont see anything wrong with them, safety comes first, looks second, those are alll as safe as can be and dont look bad at all IMO

My son plays football and I tried on his new REVO helment, and I could have slept in it! The downside to it though, is I had to pay a hefty $250 for him to get it. They are ugly, but I can see where they are coming from.

My personal opinion is I like the newer facemask styles. I guess I'm the low man in this discussion but I seem to like them. I have heard though that they are safer and obviously that is the most important thing.

I used to be just like you, and then I had to endure a season with an old Schutt helmet a an ROPO facemask. Safety and comfort trumps everything. If a player is confident in his equipment, he'll play like it.

remember when "BIKE" made the best helmets???? i still have mine from school. I tried my sons Schutt on from his HS......oh my god....NICE!

Safety and comfort are what matter! Mainly safety!

I'm sure somebody else probably said "facemasks are for sissies"

Johnny Majors, Buddy Cruze, and John Gordy said you sissies need to toughen up. Safety be damned.

Five bucks says the didn't hit as hard and run as fast as today. Not anything against them but safety is the main concern haha.

safety is way more important than looks.

whatever i used both the new style and the older style in high school. i mean the only difference is that the new ones are lighter....but yeah i think they look ugly...i switched back to the older ones cuz you felt like you could knock someone harder with it...the new ones are almost 2 comfortable...

Basic physics says that the shape of the new helmets, being closer to that of the human head... and the addition of integrated facemasks produce fewer points of excessive stress during an impact as it increases the area in which the shock can be distributed by moving more uniformly relative to the skull.

--------------------

The force is distributed over the surface of the helmet facing the blow, instead of being concentrated in the area of initial contact between a helmet and an unprotected skull. The effective area of the collisional contact between the two heads is bigger with helmets because the helmet material is rigid and moves as a single unit to transfer the force, instead of bulging inward only in the region where the force is directly applied.

-----------------------

Even the old hard shell helmets reduce the pressure at the point of impact by a factor of ten to fifteen depending on quality, but the new ones are almost as big a jump as that from leather to the original hard shell helmet.

And as far as them being lighter, that is a huge deal in an impact. The pressure applied scales directly with the weight of an object in an impact.

Bike is the old standard Schutt Air. Schutt bought the molds from Bike.

For those of you who don't notice the different styles of helmets on the team, Gerald Jones wears a DNA helmet and Bryce Brown wore a revolution in the recent practice video. Jonathan Crompton wears the basic old style helmet. Also there is another helmet style out but I am unsure of the name, I think I saw Nuke wearing one but it could have been a revolution with a funky face mask??

He was wearing the new Schutt helmet with an old facemask.
