I had a physical therapy appointment yesterday for my foot in Grapevine, TX. I was, of course, sporting a Tennessee shirt. The girl behind the counter was taking my payment and asked "Are you a TN fan?" Duh. I told her that I was an alum and an avid fan.

She said, "Coach Phil Fulmer, right?" Uh, yeah...

She said, "My dad is Phil Fulmer's first cousin. My last name if Fulmer."

Her dad was there working, too. He seems to be some sort of maintenance man at the clinic where I am doing my physical therapy. He stopped vacuuming for a while to come over and talk to a REAL UT fan. We talked a little bit about my wife growing up in Winchester and other small talk. As I was leaving, he said it was nice to see someone wearing the right shade of orange.

Very bizarre.

vader,

You ever get tired of hearing people talking about UT only to find out they are talking about the University of Texas? Thats gets pretty annoying...

I had a friend that lived down the hall in college that was from Winchester. I swear it's been so long, and we always just called him Winchester, I am totally blank on his name right now. He should be around 39, red hair, about 6'0''. Went to Freed-Hardeman. That's been 19 years since I've seen him or thought about him.

There seem to be a lot of Freed Hardeman people around. I grew up in Henderson within walking distance of that place. When it snowed (rarely) I would sled by the tennis courts.

Us young "townies" used to call it Jesus tech :)

Sorry, man. No, I was wearing jeans at the time. Maybe next time...

I wore shorts this morning, but I didn't see the Fulmers. Some tool asked me if I was excited about the Ohio State game after seeing my leg. I was even wearing a Tennessee shirt. :whatever:

Townies and Freedies. Long forgotten phrases. There used to be some good scuffs between the two gangs. Nothing more uplifting than a Christian college student riled up for a rumble. Underneath, we were all rednecks though. When were you in Henderson? Iwas there from 1983-1987. Q-Mart fried chicken and tater wedges. The Truck Stop. Jacks Creek BBQ. Some burger and fry joint we'd get and take back to hte room. I think they even delivered. Great burgers. And there was a joint alot of us ate pizza and stuff in a side alley not far off campus. Looking back, I don't know if I want mine going to a christian college. Those sheltered kids go wild when they get out for once. Just kidding. I wouldn't have traded it. Great times. I was only asked to try it for a year, then I could go anywhere. I graduated there.

Being in Texas now, you probably run into alot of Abilene Christian folks. Best track and field just about anywhere. I did a short stint there in 1985-86 and we had 7 Olympic medalists on the track team. 6 straight NC's. Ran in the Texas relays and all the biggies with the D1 tracksters as a DII school. Our QB was a blue chip recruit by Texas and legend in Texas HS football from Permian or Midland I thought. Rex Lamberti. He went to ACU cause of his girlfriend.

It just came to me. The friend who was from Winchester that we lived in the dorm with was Paul Knowles. We called him Winchester. If by some chance you actually know him, ask him about the Brew Crew Rap.

I lived there from '76 to '90 (the year I graduated HS). Some great food you are talking about there. Q-Mart had the best fried chicken ever!! I think the burgers you are talking about is Bell's Drive In. That place is legendary. Bells and Jacks Creek BBQ, how I miss 'em. :cray:

I can't think of the name of that pizza place, but for the longest time it was the only pizza in Henderson. Good!

My wife might. I'll have to ask her. I bet my mother-in-law knows him. She is a high school math teacher in Winchester. They haved lived there forever. I never set foot in Winchester until a couple of years ago.

In another small world story. I had some business dealings with Steve Spurrier's nephew last fall. He and I would talk SEC football everyday we met, but I never figured out he was Steve's nephew until the latter part of the season. He never just threw it out there. I thought it was very interesting after he told me.

I know what you mean, but he was actually a pretty good guy. Surprising huh. But I would have gotten more information from him had I known he was the enemy.

You say he was a good guy. That's obviously why he didn't mention being related to the darth Visor...

My parents live in Henderson, right behind the McDonalds

I grew up in the house right across from the high school on Old Jacks Creek Rd. and went to church right beside that McD (although it wasn't there when I was a kid)

Did you ever live in Henderson? If not, what took your parents there?
