I have never liked CBJ's offensive system....never....

However, to maximize efficiency and effectiveness--it does require a QB who is a legitimate threat to run the ball for more than 2 yards....

Justin Worley proved that fact in a negative way....
Josh Dobbs proved that fact in a positive way...

Dormady is proving that fact in a negative way...I like the kid...strong arm, stays under control, appears to be a good leader.

However--this offense will never be effective with a QB who is a pocket-passer and just athletic enough to execute roll out plays....and that is all we have with QD...an average passer who cannot run the ball....

I think J Guarantano knows it...and cannot hide his frustration...He's just a better athlete...and a better fit for this offense--in the mould of Josh Dobbs...

CBJ should make the change...to JG now....I hate it for QD...but it would be the best thing for the TEAM...

However--IMO--CBJ has dug in his heels and will not make this necessary change...

I agree with the assessment. Dormady needs to be allowed to transfer to a school who can use his talents, and he has a lot of talent.

The offense put up 442 yds fairly well balanced yards against what was alleged to be a pretty good defense. If the game would have been more effectively managed, the team would have very likely scored at least 30 points and won the game going away.

QD is not the problem.

This is what I posted during the FL game. Win or Lose the rest of the way. Unless you are willing to go under center then start JG and don't look back. His backup WM is also a legit DT QB. I too hate it for Dormandy but Butch' offensive system is more effective with a DT QB. JG, should have been given the opportunity to take that snap when QD went down (briefly) in the swamp. It almost looked to me like Butch panicked there. The outcome could not have been any worse.

To Butch Jones: Make the change Butch before you lose your team and what little fan base that's still supporting you after Saturday's fiasco.

Agreed we put up ALOT yards just didn't put it in. This Offense works with or without a running QB. It is much better with a running QB, but you can substitute the running QB with RPOs and quick passes.

For much of the game he looked like a deer in the headlights and 3 interceptions, including the pick six are a BIG problem.

Any other coach would have tweaked the offense to suit QD ATP. NO defense in the country is going to bite on his keepers because the threat of big play is so small when he runs it. Defensive players are going crash down on the RB just about every single time. If BJ is not going to change the offense for QD, then give the damn ball to JG. This is eerily similar to 2013/2014 when Justin Worley ( a pocker passer) was asked to do the same thing.

I honestly don't have tons of problems with the offense itself.

Situationally (ie short yardage), often times I have issues with it (run it on 1st and goal from the one, please!)

But we have put up some big numbers with this offense.

The big issue for me is the consistency. We can (and oftentimes do) have multiple 3 and outs consecutively, which strains the defense and allows us to potentially get behind.

However, when we show a sense of urgency (when we're inevitably down late in the game), we can move the ball well (I understand the defense can be more conservative in this situation), and put up points

I think consistency, execution, and play calling are the biggest detractors, though not always. We can play terribly on offense for half the game, then look like all-stars out there (see florida game from last year, among others where we came back). I do think we need a QB that is a big threat to run, and also has a good long-intermediate ball to keep the defense from crowding the line so we can still run well

So silly. He is not going to lose the team. To lose some fans would be a very good thing.

apparently doesn't include the qb going under center and handing the ball off to the running back.
Because he just admitted that his backup qb is not prepared to do that.

That alone tells me that he is not an sec coach.

This... offense was pretty good until they got to the red zone and then play calling killed them. Not bashing him but it looked like JG got the IP penalty at the goal line when QD had to leave the game for a play because of his snap count. Looked like Butch was schooling him when he left the field. So based on what I've seen if you sit QD the offensive production goes down.

You couldn't be MORE WRONG!!

JK was responsible for 237 yards of the offense...that's 54% of the total offensive yardage...

JK caught the ball and ran for 96 of those 237 yards...

QD had 259 yards passing...JK had 96/259 yards = 37% of QD's passing yards....

QD was 15/33 for 163 yards and 3 interceptions....when NOT throwing to JK...

Just what is it about those FACTS that you FAIL to understand???? :banghead2::banghead2:

This Offense works with or without a running QB.

This comment is beyond absurd....

NO--this offense does NOT work without a Running QB...

How short a memory you guys seem to have of this offense with Justin Worley....

And this offense with Josh Dobbs....

2014 against Fla....Justin Worley--9 points....

JW's stats in that game...205 yds with 2 ints...and a LOSS....

QD against Fla in 2017....16/39...259 yds...3 ints...20 points...and a LOSS...

Josh Dobbs...2015 Fla game... 27 points produced...

10/17 for 83 yards passing...
18 rushes for 136 yards....
and a loss...but not because of an inept offense...except in 4th QTR when CBJ choked!

2016 Fla game...

JD....16/32 319 passing yds....4 TDs...2 ints...
17 rushes for 80 yards and 1 TD....

And a WIN....

It boggles the mind to read some of the stupid comments you guys have made in denial of the obvious facts about this offense after watching it for 5 years

2015

Josh Dobbs = 2942 total yards... 54% of total offense..
Passing yards = 2291 yds...15 TDs (19%)
Rushing yards = 671 and 11 TDs... (14%)
26 total TDs = 33% of scoring production...

2016

J. Dobbs = 3777 total yards... 67% of total offense...
Passing = 2946 yards...27 TDs (27%)
Rushing = 831 yards...12 TDs (12%)
39 total TDs = 39% of scoring production...

This offense does NOT FUNCTION without a dual-threat QB.....and even then....it has only been able to produce 8-4 regular season records at best...with CBJ running the show....

If you can't see the obvious facts....I just cannot help you...and you do deserve CBJ as a head coach....

I like that, good break down of our passing yardage. I just don't see changing qb's as a fix unless JG runs about as well as JD the last three years and has much better footwork than QD. Maybe he will/maybe he won't? The problem I see, well at least in my top ten, is that until this past off-season UT didn't have a "true qb" coach. That's obvious watching QD's footwork as well as JD for three years. He throws off his back foot a lot (watch the interception over the middle that was 3yards behind our receiver who had a step on UF and the pass he threw high to MC that was the pick 6. Both thrown off his back foot). If JG is going the be throwing on the run, like Dobbs, then footwork is even more critical.

The coaching staff and the team share this one imo. If the team had made a few plays differently they would have bailed out a veryly poorly coached game. On the other hand, had Butch, Larry, and Bob coached and/or managed the game better they would have bailed out our players' mental mistakes. For example, JG should have been ready and able to handle the snap count on the 1/2 yard line. However, since the clock stops after first downs in college football, Butch shouldn't be so concerned about saving a timeout. Butch should've called timeout, decided on the next play with LS while not "on the clock". This is just one example among plenty on the players & coaches.

He has no idea how to use common sense. He calls plays according to the menu sheet and schemes ONLY!! He has no common sense at all. It takes no brains to be on the 1 inch yard line with a rb who couldn't be stopped to take two hand offs and run right into that defense even if they stuffed the box. He coaches them to check out. This dude is a hot mess.

For much of the game he looked like a deer in the headlights and 3 interceptions, including the pick six are a BIG problem.

QD did throw the potential perfect game winning pass to Kelly that was dropped. Then, this conversation would be mute. QD is not the problem.

Pure HORSE CRAP! True, but also horse crap.

He hired his old pal DeBord as OC because he could still be the real OC but blame DeBord. Now Larry Scott is learning that lesson.

He has never won with the better team. He has depended on trickery, confusion, gimmicks, and spreading the field. There are occasional wins against better teams but you keep the lesser opponents in the game. Other than non Power5 teams, UT has not stomped a team they should stomp.

I would rather see Jones transfer to a school that will utilize his lack of talent properly. Get a coach that is willing to mold an offense to the players on the field.

He wont if only because QD has more seniority!!

But, it's not all QD's fault. Some "catchable" pass weren't caught. In some of the plays he put the ball in the inly place it could have been caught.
