Anyone going? Kind of an odd matchup to start the season. But none the less, this is a big time football game for East Tennessee standards. Anyway, for those who can't make it, it's on local tv on MyVLT.

Wow. ..didn't expect that. Did hear a guy at the gym that said Powell had 17 new starters from last year. But still kinda expected Powell to win...Fulton must be for real.

Unbelievable! I figured Fulton might get them by 10-14 points. Powell lost a lot from last year and was down a player or two tonight. But they are not chopped liver, Powell is a good program. Fulton beat them like they are an 0-10 team. This Fulton team is scary good. No wonder the couldn't get OOC teams to schedule them.

I'm thoroughly disgusted by our performance. Our defense was abysmal. Our offense was terrible. Our inside linebackers didn't show up at all and missed more tackles than they made. The new defensive scheme is going to take a lot more work before it is anywhere near where it was last year.

I think the loss of Coach Hawkins as def coordinator is going to be a much bigger loss than a lot of people expected. We had a great defense the last several years and is the primary reason for our state playoff runs.

Losing all but 3 starters on defense plus installing a brand new defense is going to be a real challenge this season. If they don't fix the defense quickly, it's going to be a LONG season.

Powell will still have a good year. They just ran into a buzz saw and got out manned. Fulton has too many playmakers and they are big and fast. I don't think the other teams they face will do much better.

This. Fulton struggled to fill their schedule this yr. they were about to start scheduling out of state with a Ky team or two. I commend Powell for stepping up and playing them. Fulton will completely slaughter most if not all teams they play this year. This is an excellent football team.

That is what I said. Fulton is that much better! Powell will still have a good year with the teams they have left. Nobody is going to touch Fulton.

I recognize Fulton is an outstanding team and knew going in we were going to have a tough time. However, getting thrashed 46-0 is disgusting. We got beat so bad because Fulton is a great team AND we were not prepared. We have a long way to go. Yes, we will still end up having a good season, but if you watched that game and then watched it again on TV and think that is a playoff team, then I think you need to watch it a third time.

Yes, we lost a lot of talent and we are very green on defense and o-line, but I expected a lot more out of our offense. One of my biggest worries was our secondary, but other than the first two series where we gave up two long completions, they played respectfully considering the talent they faced. Our inside linebackers, however, had a horrible game.

Our defense is not where it needs to be. Blaming it on the talent we faced is a bit delusional. Yes, Fulton will score 30 points on most teams they face, but our defense has been stellar the last few years and would not have given up that amount of points to anyone. It's a work in progress and the new defensive scheme has a ways to go before it's solid. Hopefully Grove will get it straightened out because we didn't look good defensively at all.

Let's hope we show improvement and beat CAK this week. CAK lost a lot of talent so hopefully we'll match up better against them.

Fulton struggled filling their schedule because they DIDN'T do their schedule. Their AD missed the deadline and the county filled it out for them. Not sure we were given much of a choice on playing Fulton...

That begs the question of what is a good year? 8-3? Powell probably cannot handle O.R. and that would be a second loss and CAK might be a third loss. Other than that Powell seems to have a weak schedule. But, they probably won't go far in the playoffs since Maryville awaits. Powell missed its best chances at a title the last two years.

There is no "deadline" to do schedules in Tennessee. My sources told me that Powell was contacted early in the process as was every other Knox County team. Hats off to Powell for scheduling a tough team. Having 3 coaches in 3 years is difficult for any team to over come. They will be fine

My "source" told me Fulton didn't do their job and the county took over figuring out their schedule.

Why did it take you so long to post? You've been a member since 2010 and that was your first post?

When you put the mercy rule on 5A Powell and 6A Bearden does it matter? I guess the same can be said for scrimmages? No one wants to play this team.

Powell is a 6A school now isn't it? Powell had no trouble with Fulton 2 or three years ago when Fulton supposedly had a loaded team and was a state title contender (which turned out to be a disappointing year for Fulton) so Powell probably thought their 6A team could handle this 4A Fulton team, and good 6A teams would probably win the majority of times against 4A teams, but this Fulton team "could" turn out to be one of the best in Knox County history. Farragut might give Fulton a real test though.

They are good this year but I doubt they could beat Ensworth.

Sad thing is we will never know. Watching Ensworth on ESPN the other night their secondary looked a little slow to me. That's where Fulton kills teams. I think Fulton is big enough to play with them in the trenches and I would give Fulton the edge in speed. But like I said ... We will never know.
