Fulmer's firing really just comes down to one flaw...

His inability to find a strong replacement for Cutcliffe. Not only in his most recent example w/ Clawson, but also with just letting Randy Sanders come over.

Think about it, when Cutcliffe was Offensive Coordinator under Fulmer and Chavis as Defensive Coordinator, the Vols were seemingly always improving. However, whenever Cutcliffe left the picture, the Vols were digressing.

From that standpoint, I do feel bad for Fulmer-- but ultimately it's his responsibility to have an eye for the right talent. On the same note however, I don't think Cutcliffe alone was the reason we were successful while he was here-- I just think he was one of the right pieces of the pie.

I agree but UT's success should not be contingent on one man. Cutcliffe is not such a great OC that his coaching should make or break our team.

Cutcliffe had always been the disciplinarian as well. On both occasions of his departure, UT went through alot of off the field issues. It's very evident this year's players lack discipline

If "one flaw" means 1) errors in managing the assistant coaches, 2) refusing to update UT's offensive schemes to be more competitive, 3) getting beat on the recruiting trial, and 4) ultimately blaming everyone else, then I agree with you.

Fulmer wants to be the smartest guy in the room, thus the general lack of quality in assistants during his regime (except for those that he trusts implicitly, ala Cutcliffe and Chavis).

Compare fulmer's assistants to Majors. The difference is unbelievable.

I think he would not adapt to change. He will not even give more talented people on the bench get a shot. Granted we may not know exactly what goes on in practice, but it seems every jr and sr earned their playing time. I think stubborness got the best of him

It doesn't matter what you think.

Our offensive schemes needed no updating when executed properly. I am glad we never went to the spread. UT should remain a pro-style school as our major draw is being a pro-factory.

I agree, but UT's success isn't. Look at the defense, Chavis has consistently brought a competitive defense to Tennessee throughout his entire career. Sure there are a couple of blemishes here and there, but overall it's very solid.

When looking at the weakness, it's always been Offense, and it has always been while Cutcliffe wasn't present.

If I had to narrow it to one flaw, I'd have to say it's losses.

However, I believe there are myriad reasons for the losses, most of them coaching.

BPV, clever as always. May I add a twist?

Its losses.

And who you were losing to.

And the way you were losing to them.

And the fact that it seemed like you would keep losing to them.

My point is that it shouldn't take Cutcliffe to make our offense successful. I agree that it has slipped when Cut was not coaching but I believe this speaks more about Fulmer's trust of assistants than the assistants themselves.

That was sort of my hook for the joking part. But anywhosal ...

LOL, good luck with the spread. There's a reason it's not used in the pros....

The spread will never work in the pros because of the speed of the defensive ends and the speed of the corners as they come up and prevent the quick out.

I'm struggling to understand, however, why that means that athletes would choose to go to UT rather than Florida.

I find the amount of arrogance oozing from your posts rather sickening. If and when florida falls on their face, i'm going to yuck it up good for your arrogant butt.

LG1 has been following the gators long enough to have seen the ups and downs. Let him enjoy it while he can. It is up to our new coach to stop it.

Voldad, with all due respect let him enjoy it on a gator board instead of throwing it in our faces. I have respect for law, but if you throw it in my face enough i'm not going to like it.
