When he called for the squib kick that ultimately lost the 01 UGA game and cost us an undefeated season has to go down as the biggest coaching blunder of his career.

Clawson appears to have been a flop...I would like to know if he could have worked out after a couple of years??

The whole second half of the LSU game destroyed his career. UT hasn't been the same since...

Clawson seems like a guy who got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. His system just didn't work this year at UT. His presser this week was a good one, I thought.

I hope he gets another chance and does well.

I don't think that is even close to a coaching blunder. Every coach in the last 25 years has gone for that squib kick in that situation. The execution just stunk.

The turning point was not having the team ready to play in the SEC CG in 2001.

Starting Crompton the first 4 games this year and refusing to pull him out until the season and the teams confidence was destroyed.

Discipline, discipline, discipline.... or the lack thereof.

The mere existence of the "fulmer cup" is the biggest coaching blunder.

seriously, stepping back into his office after winning the big one. Should have called it a career after Vicky suggested it.

I would agree that the offense this year has been a flop, but calling his hiring one i wouldnt go as far as to say. look at whats his name at minnesota, 1 win last year in his 1st year and doing very well this year. Sometimes it takes more than the first season to get the guys to buy into and understand. I dont think he'll be around for next year but its always fun to wonder what he'd do with another season to get things going, he did very well turning richmond around from seasons 1-2 so mayybe if it was in the cards, but its not looking good for him right now.

He had it in his veins at the time. Complacency set in afterwards. I think phil got satisfied with himself as a coach. That and the soft part.

01 choke against lsu--poor game plan, bad preparation.

The gameplan wasn't bad. Remember UT was up @ halftime, by like what...14 or 17 pts.?

Remember CPF was walking around with "roses" prior to the game and so were some of the players. They did have their minds elsewhere at times and the 2nd half execution was completely missing. Chavis should be to blame partially also. He didn't blitz much in the 2nd half and went into zone coverage with lots of gaps. Typical Chavis "D" when up with a slim lead. (ugh!) A 2nd string QB with a 3rd string RB lead his team up and down the field on our experienced Defense. It was a very embarrassing day.

Hiring Clawson and not giving him the control he promised, latest blunder.
