With all this talk on VN to fire Dooley lets look at what Fulmer did against Gators.

1994 the Vols lose to the Gators 34-0.

1995 TN had a 30-14 lead at halftime before falling apart and losing 62-37

After 5 straight loses TN won in 1998 in overtime 20-17 on the way to the NC

With the expectation today, how many years would Fulmer been here before the fans call for his firing.

Fans were calling for Fulmer's firing in 1996, lol. That's some funny shiz at this point.

Too bad he got fat and lazy.

Losing to UF wasn't as big a deal then, especially with 10+ wins staring you in the face, now, we get to look forward to November, which is Dooley's strongest month.

Hey Gramps wonder if they know Fulmer had an all time losing record against the Gators of 5-11. That was 5 wins in 16 games, allow that to digest and don't forget 2 of those wins were against Zook.

Good grief, how many times do you homers have to be told that it's not just one loss to UF that has doomed Dools - it's his body of work to this point, which is dismal.

I thought that CPF was the wrong hire at the time and was convinced after the 95 UF game.

He did not beat UF much in the 90s (no one did) but the overall body of work was not too shabby, unlike that of our future ex coach.

Correct me if I am wrong but if memory serves, Florida was about the only team beating us on a regular basis back then. If Fulmer had a record that mirrored Dooley's against everyone else, then hell yes he would/should have been fired. Your reasoning fails.

That's silly. Considering where we were 2 seasons ago, I would have never thought we'd be in any position to compete at all.

You are correct. Fulmer, Cut, Chavis round 1 went 45-5 with 3 of those losses to UF.

I would have been perfectly fine with Fulmer continuing to replicate his success from the 90s throughout the 00s.

As a whole the SEC was a joke during that period compared to what it is right now

So, we should throw Fulmer's run in the 90's out the window? The OP is the one that wanted the comparison and I replied based on that.

On a side note - I cannot believe I am defending Fulmer.

Didn't say that.........Fulmer wouldn't haved fared nearly was well had the SEC been as strong then as it is now. I was responding to your comment about FL being the only team beating the Vols regularly

10-5-1

That's better than any HC in FBS history (min 10 games), except for a certain General (11-4-2).

There's always a team that is dominate over some other team & Florida is always, it seems, our waterloo. We beat KY,VU, Ole Miss, Miss St, and others & I'm sure their fan base has the hatred for UT's beat down of those fans teams. We use to beat FL on a regular basis back some time ago but things go in cycles. I wish our cycle of beating FL on a regular basis would come back starting next year.
