Word is some talking head out in Iowa said that Fulmer stated he was interested in the head coaching vacancy. He could recruit out there and probably have a good run in the Big12 North but, I don't see him hanging with Texas and Oklahoma that well.

Do a shovel and a 6ft measuring tape come as perks with the job?

Actually let me take that back, he could go winless and still be the top candidate for the Auburn job.

No way. I don't think the Iowa State program has the passion Fulmer claimed he was looking for

After a couple of years recruiting he would own the north....May be something that intrigues him.

What makes you so sure he could recruit anyone up there? Sure he was great at it at UT, but he had a little more to offer there. I don't know if Phil is interested in rebuilding a program for 5 years

Fulmer will take a couple of years off and wait for the right opportunity. Iowa State is a place where he would win 6-7 games a year in the Big 12 North and a weak non conference schedule but will not compete for Big 12 supremacy. Oklahoma and Texas will continue to dominate. He would not have to deal with high expectations there so he could coach til he retired.

I agree....If he could beat colorado, iowa and kansas will regularity and nebraska/missouri every other year he would could stay as long as he wanted. I do think he could pull in decent recruiting classes for the Cyclones.

But, I don't think he goes there. The Cyclone rivals board is 50/50 excited and skeptical.

Iowa State===dead end job, but Fulmer just cares now about making $1-$2 mil per year, and he could bank the $6 mil from UT, and be living large up in Iowa baby!!!

They wont offer IMO. They will offer some up and coming OC or DC instead. He's going to have to put his sights lower.

I think they change that happened at UT would force Fulmer to rethink his stand pat on the coaching staff attitude. It may have renewed his desire to WIN. Unfortunately, he had to be shown the door at his alma mater to get to that point.

how funny would it be if Phil coached at a place that Majors had been......again?

the passion or the smarts to be an effective coach anymore. He is burned out, tired, fairly old--and not really very smart, to be candid. Good grief: If all you can say after games for ten years is "we'll have to look at the videotape" and "we're gonna work like heck to get better," you should not be a major-college football coach any longer. Beyond that, Fulmer's problem at UT*was pretty fundamental--he did not spot problems and fix them, with the assistant coaches and with the team. Problems lingered for weeks, years. If you can't spot and fix problems, you're in trouble. It's possible to be a veteran coach and be effective if you've got really sharp, energetic assistants and you are a good manager. But I question whether Fulmer will ever coach, much less be successful, again.

I heard he was going to become the Off Co at Penn State with plans of taking over if Joe Pa ever mysteriously falls down a flight of press box stairs.

ISU doesn't have the passion? I'll forgive that, because it may not be evident nationally, but ISU has a following that borders on obsession. I came over here from Cyclone Fanatic after one of yours came over to post there. The site has had over 2,000,000 hits since Saturday. Say what you want about ISU sports, but if Fulmer is looking for passion, look no further!

I live in Iowa... compared to Iowa, ISU has no following.... I hate Iowa...

I share your hate. Iowa may have a larger number of "fans" here, but try asking an Iowa "fan" how they did in the last game. Most have no idea who's on the team or who they're playing. They're a bunch of empty shirts.

Are many ISU fans interested in having cPF as a coach?

I thought his daughters were done with that...if not they might actually be good enough to play there.
