Fulmer plans to coach again

It wasn't all his fault:

You always look back at games and wish you had done some things differently," he says. "I certainly was disappointed it ended the way that it did, and I have some responsibility in that. It's always that way with a head coach – the buck stops there. I think anyone would be proud of what we did accomplish. You use it as a learning experience. I had a great time and enjoyed a good run."

If Tennessee had reached a bowl last season, would he still have his job? "I think so, but I am not the one to answer that," says Fulmer, laughing. "We kind of screwed two or three games up."

Well, as was his usual thing, he subtly blames others, while pretending to take the fall.

I think this is the main reason alot of us fans get irritated towards him. If he just owned up and said I handled the last 5 years pretty poorly and I understand why the fanbase needed a change then everyone would respect him for what he did for the program. But now he keeps taking suttle jabs at how it went down and everyone talks sh*t. It's very frustrating and I am ready for this season to start!

"I really have a couple of big decisions with what I am going to do with television," says Fulmer, who spent four years as a player, 13 as an assistant and 17 as coach at Tennessee. "I have to ask myself if I want that significant of an obligation for 16 or 17 weeks."

If he doesn't want any significant obligations, coaching doesn't sound like a job he should have either.

I have stated previously that I thought he would and should get another coaching job.I have saw nothing in the last 7 months to alter that assessment.

No the fan's irritation came with the actual results the last five years, and possibly the greater want of national championships after rivals started winning them. If he just kept saying it was only his fault, he possibly could have been fired sooner honestly (and if he cried, well the fans would have hated him too...)

Now, good for him for looking for another job rather than just sitting around. Gotta follow your passion in this world whatever it is.

And guys, fulmer's not part of UT anymore. And till he starts complaining and fussing every interview like majors, well it doesn't deserve too much more attention.

If Kiffin comes out and wins 8 games and Crompton shows progression, no one in the NCAA will want him to coach.

I don't think that success by Kiffin would have much effect on the hirability of Fulmer because its hard to see a school in the bigger conferences being interested in him. I do think, however, that if Kifin fails then Fulmer will have a little pep in his step.

His resume is too good. He at least would end up at one of the smaller, not too good, "you made it to a bowl game, wow congratulations! represent our conference well :good!:" schools.

And it'd have to pretty much be kiffin winning 10 games and crompton ending the season w/ either heisman candidacy or consideration from the NFL draft for your scenario

Its hard to see him outside the SEC, or at least the south in general. Maybe a C-USA school? A UCF? A Memphis?

it's not in fulmer's makeup to coach at a school that would not coddle him like ut did.. i.e. most schools..

I hope he can make it on the $6 mill. buyout...

Agreed. His lack of introspection is one of the major contributors of his downfall. If you're not willing to look inwardly to see how you can improve or adjust, then you will get passed up by the Saban's and Meyer's of this world.

Sounds like he's taking responibility in this paragraph..

"You always look back at games and wish you had done some things differently," he says. "I certainly was disappointed it ended the way that it did, and I have some responsibility in that.
