thanks for the link...nothing too news worthy, though i think his comments validate the "anxious" feeling we as fans have....the one that got me was "comfortable is not a word we can use at Tennessee right now".

i agree 100%.

I think I'd just as soon Fulmer threw the 'magic dust' quote in the trash heap...

Q. Can you talk about the immediate effect of David on Erik Ainge and your offense. What did you see right away that maybe you hadn't seen before?

COACH FULMER: Well, you know, I think sometimes people think you've got this magic dust that you're just going to go out there and sprinkle on an offense or a defense or a punter or kicker or coach or whatever, and everything's just going to be perfect. It takes a lot of work and a lot of time over a period of time for things to change.

What David brings is a really sound fundamental system to coach the quarterbacks and to run the offense that's been proven over a period of time. Not that we're going to be the same as we were last year or the years past, but there will be elements of being able to run the football, being able to throw the ball down the field, being able to take care of the football, to understand that a punt is a good thing. That's the largest change of yardage usually in a game. Change 35 to 40 yards at a time. Playing field position, all those things.

David brings all that and a lot of credibility with the guys that he's coached and the successes that they've had at Tennessee and at Ole Miss. Again, a long answer to a short question, but that's the truth.

He used it again later on. It's got to be you guys here at the Nation that have made me cringe at it, but still...let it go coach.... :mf_surrender:

I'll give him a pass on it. He's been answering the same questions for 6 months. Just be glad nobody is asking about discipline problems.

I'd much rather hear this from CPF, than listen to him talk about booking travel plans for the NC game.

10-4 on that....and as long peopel keep asking the same kinds of questions, i think he'll just keep giving the same kinds of answers...no need to suddenly change your opinion now, right?

Oh no he didn't....

I understand what he's saying about the field position, but I'm a little tired of setting up the punt on 3rd down instead trying to get a first down.

I think he's just trying to make the point that it's always better to punt on 4th down than to do something stupid on 3rd down.

Yeah and I agree with that, but wouldn't you like to see an 8 yard pass attempt on 3rd and 7 instead of running it up the middle to get in good position to punt and hope that maybe the RB pulls off the first down? Just a couple of times?

I understand with using 3rd down to move into better position to kick a FG. However, moving into better position to punt??? Unless the team is backed up in their own endzone, does an extra 3 or 4 yards really matter when punting? I think not.

Agreed, unless you are inside your own 10 yard line. I have punted out of the endzone, and it is the loneliest feeling you can imagine.

I think you are going to get your wish this year. Well, when you include the just a couple of times part. I think we'll see more throws from every down and distance. At times. It creates better balance, and balance is now, and will always be a Cut tradition...

We've definitely thrown a lot of short stuff lately. But I think that has a lot to do with trying to keep it simple for our QBs the last couple of years. It's kind of scary, but in reality due to injuries in 2002, bad o-line and RB play in 2003 and inexperience at QB in 2004 and 2005, we probably haven't seen a wide open playbook 5 years.

Again, I think the game of field postion is important and Fulmer has won a lot of games playing that way. I just think in certain situations, Fulmer could be a little more aggressive with the playcalling.

I would love to see a new tradition, concerning the UT offense, begin in 2006:

Take a shot at the endzone once in a while from the opponents 35 yard line!

I absolutely cannot stand the fact that we will have a 2nd and short situation, about 30-35 yards out, and we will hand it off on a dive play. The defense has to protect against the first down, therefore, you are most likely going to have a man-on-man situation in the secondary...any of our offensive geniuses want to expose that???
