Fulmer/Lloyd Carr Comparison

Last year Lloyd Carr effectively lost his job when Appalachian State upset the Woverines in the season opener. I say that Appalachian State would have beaten this year's woeful UCLA team by two or more TD's.

Futhermore, Carr won five conference championships and one national championship at Michigan. Fulmer has only one two conference championships and one NC in a longer period of time coaching at UT.

If Fulmer is allowed to retain his job after this season the someone needs to send an apology to Mr. Carr.

The way that conference has been over the last 15 years, five conference titles is nothing special.

I've long held to a loose theory that Lloyd Carr, John Cooper, Mack Brown, and Phil Fulmer are all the same person acting out different personalities. They are all so similiar...

...oversee good programs, generally good for decent win%, great recruiters, but aren't the greatest coaches and have a penchant for underachieving and looking bad in big games. All but Cooper had a small era where great players amassed at just the right time and got them over the edge one time. However, their NCs are the aberration not the rule.

However, i will say that Mack Brown has been doing a good job of hiring better assistants lately. Fulmer seems to be the worst in that regard.

Carr won five conference titles in his thirteen years at UM. During that time the legendary coach, Joe Paterno, only won one. How many conference titles has Fulmer won in the SEC in the last ten years, counting this year?

A rhetorical question; How many titles do you think Fulmer would have won had he been coaching at Michigan the last 16 years (not that they would have been foolish enough to let him hang around that long)?

I contend that Tennessee was the only school that Fulmer could have been sucessful.

When two of the three shared ones were three-way ties, then I say that your comparison goes down the tubes. I am not defending Fulmer, I am simply stating that your argument is garbage.

Shared titles are better than no titles. Is LSU's national championship in 2003 diminished since it was shared with Southern Cal?

How many BCS bowls did Michigan go to under Carr compared to Fulmer, in the same period.

As long as the following conversation can occur, then, yes, it is diminished.

"Hey, LSU won the National Championship in 2003."
"So did USC."

This is a better point to bring up when comparing Fulmer and Carr.

One has nothing to do with the other. The SEC has become substantially stronger over the last 15 years and the Big MAC has gotten substantially weaker. In addition, the Big MAC doesn't have a conference championship game while the SEC does.

I can't think of a single year during Carr's tenure when Michigan was worse than 2nd in the conference in terms of actual on-field talent. But I can sure see a lot of years when UT wasn't that high.

Fulmer never would have been allowed to set foot in the tea-sippers club that is the Big Blue Screw to begin with. You might as well ask George O'Leary and his caricature of a New York accent to win over UT boosters and alumni.

mmmm....but after the way they got beaten up by LSU, i dont think that Appy is a guarantee over UCLA....i mean i know UCLA got beaten up on by BYU, but so far BYU's beaten up on everyone; you could say we'd lose to BYU!

also, none of us have to send any apology to loyd carr b/c we arent and werent associated w/ his school

1) I'm comparing the 2007 Appy team that that won it's division national championship vs. this years UCLA.
2) No, not literally send him an apology!

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the bowl game meant more to Michigan than it did to Florida.
