What if CPF turned the VOLS around in 2009 like Penn State has?
I say give him another year look at the recruits we have and could lose.

Well, the PSU fans were going nuts the past few years saying Paterno couldnt recruit or coach anymore...seems like that was a crock of crap. I do think its time for a change though and start taking UT in a different direction.

Next year's team will be worse. Why should I believe Fulmer will start freshmen before he has a few slashes in the Loss column and his job is on the line? No. This is as good as it gets for now and I'd rather take the plunge. It's past time.

What have you seen over the past 10 years that gives you any hope that he can turn us around?

What recruits are you concerned about losing (who in particular)?

Joe Paterno was smart enough to hire all new assistants and then let them do their job without interfering. Fulmer hasn't figured that out yet.

UT will run the table next year like Penn State this year? Pass the stuff you've been smoking--it must be really good.

Beat me to it.

Also, Paterno has not faced the increase in capabilities of opposing coaches within his league. There's no Saban, Richt, Meyer, Spurrier, etc. in the big 10. Rather, Paterno is in an arguably weaker league than it was at the beginning of the decade.

So I take by your silence that you have seen nothing over the past 10 years that gives you hope he can turn things around.

and

There are no recruits in particular that you are concerned about losing.

What was the point of this thread?

Fulmer has pissed away 2 top 5 classes in the past 4 years, so I'm not buying the "wait and see what he can do with these recruits" angle.

The man consistently does less with more and I'm done hoping for that to change.

All you experts who want to compare Paterno to Fulmer. Fulmer could not hold water to Paterno's first 20 years of coaching. You want to compare a man in his 40th year of coaching vs a man who wont last past year 16.

You guys are making fools of yourselves to even mention Fulmer in the same sentence as Joe Pa. The man is an icon and Fulmer should be cleaning his shoes at the first chance. Fulmer got his ass spanked both times to Joe Pa.

Joe Pa's rec since 92 (joined big 10 1992)
92-current

2 Conf Champs 94 and 05
0 NC
4 losing season's

Phil's record

Not that I agree with this thread at all, but if Fulmer leaves we are in danger of losing Giles, Oku, Stokes, Thigpen and others.

But, depending on the new coach we will look better in the eyes of other recruits such as Marlon Brown.

Bottom line is we need a new coach for the long term and can't be overly concerned about this years recruits.

I agree full-heartedly. I'll take a bad recruiting year for a new coach this year.
