Remember back in 2002 when Ron Zook was hired? Well we all know how that coaching career went. He had a couple of bright spots. He beat UT in Knoxville and FSU in his final game. Ultimately, I think Gator fans were really worried about the state of their program when he finally go the boot.

Zook's regular season records:
8-4
8-4
7-4
Overall: 23-12

Once Zook was sent packing Florida went out and hired the best coach available. The turnaround was instantly apparent. In two years Urban Meyer has Florida back as a national powerhouse. He's already won a conference and national championship.

Let's look at UT's regular season record over the past few years:
5-6
9-3
Overall: 14-9

So, in order to match Zook's incredible thee year run at Florida, UT needs to go 9-3 or better this season. We're already 0-1, which means in the final 11 games we need to go 9-2. Based on the team we fielded Saturday, I'm not confident we can get through our SEC schedule with just two losses. If we lose two more games, UT is the equal of the Florida Zookers. If we lose three or more, we're worse. Does the fact that that is a possibility concern anyone?

Florida got rid of Zook and won a national championship. What will Mike Hamilton do? I think UT still has talent, much like Florida did when Zook left. If we get the right coach, I think a quick turnaround is possible. It happened in Gainesville, it can happen in Knoxville.

Nope because we love our team and would even if they were 1-12, so the problem will just fix itself.

Keep sitting in Phat Phils lap and smiling saying it's ok and telling him how much of a raise he's going to get at the end of the season-win or lose.

Accept mediocrity and hope Bruce Pearl gets it done. I think keeping Fulmer is more about not F-ing up a money making machine, than winning championships.

Based on the defense I saw last night, 9-3 would be a pleasant surprise.

LOL...thank you so much. Josh4UT is killing me today. I died a little on the inside when I read his posts. He has done a great deal of diservice to the Big Orange Army and should be dishonorably discharged.

The entire BOA should be dishonorably discharged. Talk about ripping off a football tradition.

It's not fair to compare Fulmer to Zook. Fulmer has won conference championships and a natty title. Think about this for a second. Name another conference with this many high profile coaches:

Phil Fulmer
Urban Meyer
Steve Spurrier
Mark Richt
*gag* Nick Saban
Tommy Tubberville

That's 6 high profile coaches, my friends. Fulmer's problem is NOT with his coaching, but rather his stubbornness to change his gameplan. Spurrier used to have that problem too. The SEC has changed so much the past 5 years, 10 years, etc. Fulmer needs to learn to adjust and he can be a monster in the SEC again.

That's the problem, though. Fulmer is an ex offensive line coach, and it seems that all he knows how to do is rely on the run and power football.

I would want him at my rival school, too.

You're leaving out one coach in the process I believe. hahaha.....

Spurrier to Zook to Meyer.

Fulmer to "blank" to "blank".

Hopefully your Fulmer comparison, despite him actually having had success unlike Zook Em', is accurate in saying that our next coach will IMMEDIATELY right the ship instead of going through an even worse coach that we think can get the job done before hiring a top notch coach.

That's just it though....even if Fulmer is gone, there is no guarantee that he's going to be replaced with a better coach. Fresh blood is one thing and as much as we complain, at least those top recruiting classes win us more games than we'd win if we had this average coaching and NOT as much talent.

I'd rather get an average coach, and after a few years replace him then just let the situation get worse and do nothing.

Maybe they're just trying to give Bob Stoops another year or two at Oklahoma?

He's be at the top of my list personally.

And what's really sad - we don't know how to run or play power football anymore. No basically the only thing we know how to do we don't do well.
