Like I said GA, most people. :good!:

Point taken . . . If the truth be known, 99% of the participants in this website (myself included) have no business evaluating something as nuanced as an Assistant football coach.

I guess my whole point was, you can't read someone's resume or a football team's stats and get an accurate description of a coach or their philosophies. I really don't care for the most part who Fulmer hires as long as he brings someone on board who can figure out a way to score better in the 2nd half and run the football better. Short of that, he could hire Al Pacino as the OC and I would be happy.

I don't know how many of you have been to Detroit, but if I was Kippy, I'd take my NFL pension, a nice salary at TN, a lower cost of living, less chance of being shot, and get the heck out of Dodge.

They are doing something right out there. Can't all be talent alone and pete carrol isn't doing it all by himself.
yeah, but you don't take a position coach who's not been proven as a coordinator and make him a head coach in the SEC.

Sorry didn't know that was the subject. I was just suggesting looking around at their program and see why it has been so successful over the past 6 years. Never suggested putting anyone from southern cal's coaching staff in a coordinator's role. We lost more than just a OC i believe we lost the entire staff. I'am just saying something is working out there and if i were phil i'd find out what that something is.

Makes sense that he is going to the conference as close to the vest as Fulmer is keeping it. No planes on tarmacs, just coaches who look like they are going to a conference.

Well, it seems as now Fulmer isn't going to the conference. Looks as if Chavis, Brooks, and Slade are going to speak or something to that effect. Fulmer, Adkins, and Caldwell are staying put in Knoxville according to reports. This is now just starting to get plain silly. Name a damn OC Fulmer and get your head on straight.

why are you freaking out? What point of Fulmer repeatedly saying he's in no hurry to name the new OC did you not get? Quit hanging on every word from Hubbs acting like you have secret information and realize Hubbs is guessing on everything, just like all of us here. Fulmer has said since the beginning of this that it would be the second week of January minimum before he hired anyone. Just calm down and let the man do his job.

people are worried about the delay because it's killing this year's recruiting class

the same stuff they said from day one. But it's not like this is a surprise. Anyone that read the articles knew the search was going to take some time. Besides, the dead period just ended, or it might not even have ended yet. The recruiting period hasn't lost much because it hasn't been able to.

I thought Fulmer was going to the conference to interview for WR coach...the rest, I assumed have been decided?

the search did take Spurrier very long. it doesnt take a coach that's prepared and decisive. The next big recruiting date is Jan 10th so we need someone in place to burn up the phone lines prior to that date. The new guy that these kids will be playing for.

And Fulmer has said he's going to announce the guy on the 8th. Sounds perfectly logical. But feel free to continue the woe is me approach all of you.

If Fulmer announces he's ready to announce, he's not that dumb. Give the man some credit. You all act like you couldn't get himself out of his coaching office without someone else's help. He knows whether Cignetti is taking the Cal job/UCLA job (which is what i heard he was in the running for, the Cal job is new) or would come to UT. If it's not Cignetti, Fulmer has someone tabbed. No one knows who it is though except Fulmer and maybe MH.

here's some info on what we've lost recruiting wise because of Fulmer "taking so much time" finding a new OC. From InsideCoach.com - Recruiting Calendar

Division I Football Recruiting Calendar
August 1, 2003 - July 31, 2004

(a) August 1, 2003 through November 29, 2003 [except for (1) and (2) below] : Quiet Period

(1) In Division I-A football, six days during the months of September 2003, October 2003 and through the last Saturday in November 2003 selected at the discretion of the institution (an authorized off-campus recruiter may visit a particular educational institution only once during this evaluation period): Evaluation Period

(2) In Division I-AA football, 42 evaluation days (see Bylaw 3.02.6.2) during the months of September 2003, October 2003 and through the last Saturdayin November 2003 (not to exceed a period of 42 calendar days) selected at the discretion of the member institution and designated in writing in the office of the director of athletics; authorized off-campus recruiters shall not visit a prospect's educational institution on more than one calendar day during this period. Evaluation Period

(b) November 30, 2003 through January 31, 2004 [except for (1) though (5) below] -Six in-person off-campus contacts per prospective student-athlete shall be permitted during this time period with not more than one permitted in any one calendar week (Sunday through Saturday) or partial calendar week: Contact Period

(1) December 21, 2003 (The Sunday after the third Saturday in December): Quiet Period

(2) December 22, 2003 through January 1, 2004: ): Dead Period

(3) January 2-4, 2004): Quiet Period
(4) January 5-8, 2004): Dead Period
(5) January 9-10, 2004): Quiet Period

I'm sure if a prospect actually comes to visit during this quiet period, Fulmer would do a great a job of handling the process all on his own. I wonder how many people actually visit during quiet periods though? The 8th looks like a perfect date to hire a new OC.

The only reason he mentioned the 8th is that's the date the players are supposed to report back to school. Also, I can see this going until Thursday the 10th. As long as he has the guy in place before the recruits get here on the 11th is all Fulmer cares about. We will see.
