I read posts here every day but rarely do I post. I wish to say something that I think is important and let me start with a little context. I believe it may well be time for a coaching change. I have been displeased with Chavis for longer than Fulmer, but I haven't liked what I have seen of either in recent years. That being said.....Please show some respect for Fulmer! Your are delusional if you think you care more about UT football than he does. This man has spent 30 years, day in day out, striving to make UT better. If you don't like his results, then you have the right to express your opinion, but making remarks about donuts or "Phil" or some of the other crap just diminishes the whole UT program.
Try for a minute to put yourself in his position now. Your whole existance is UT football, and you are on the verge of being removed form it for good. Your friends and family here the names you are being called and you are wondering "did I just waste my life without a purpose?"
If Phil needs to go then he needs to go, but their is a respectful way to do things. It needs to be done in a manner that in ten years, when we honor the 98 team, Fulmer actually shows up and is not wondering if he will be booed for walking on the field. It needs to be done in a way so that when Phil dies, 20, 30, 40 years form now, the University celebrates a man who dedicated his entire productive adult life to UT football and his grandkids can be proud to be Fulmers.
Once again, this is not in defense of his job, but a plea for UT fans to be considered "classy", not bandwagoners with short memories and ADD.
All you can ever ask is for someone to give their all and to carry themselves in a respectful manner. I believe Phil has done this and we should treat him accordingly.
Flame on.

I totally agree but we already know that these respect threads do no good.It has slowed down a bit but if we lose today, get ready for the bashings.

Respect is something you earn.....he actually had my respect up until about 3 years ago.
As a person he gets respect from me but as far as his coaching ability I have nothing for him...SORRY...wait a minute, no I'm not.

good post. i hope he is gone after this year however, and we can rebuild in a respectful manner as well. yeah i bet no one would call him fat in front of his face from volnation ( unless they are really fast runners). In fact, most people on here that may see him in person would ask for an autograph and be really cordial.

But, again I hope his ass is gone after this season.

yes, there are alot of 'NegaVols" on here.........seems to occupy alot of this board, acutally.......maybe some are Alabama fans in disguise?? haha........

I think it's good to dispute things, and state some opinions, etc......but the personal attacks on Fulmer should really be stopped, or edited.......I saw Fulmer during the Volwalk before the Alabama game, and he didn't look good at all, kind of troubled........but you know when you see him he's bleeding orange more than any of us, for sure..........

whatever happens will happen.....I love the guy as a person, but he screwed up royally by hiring the wrong OC........should've got the guy from Michigan, then we would have also probably got the QB transfer from there, as well.........I'm sure that guy would've been way better than Clawson (again a nice guy, but not ready for this, in my opinion)

regardless, it all comes back to Phil.........now I think his time has come..........

I respect him..... I just don't believe that he's the man to lead this team anymore. When you get destroyed by your rivals on a regular basis you will be the butt of more than a few jokes.

Fulmer wasn't too worried about respect for a Tennessee legend when he helped push Johnny Majors out the door. What goes around comes around.

C'mon. You really think Fulmer wonders "did I just waste my life without a purpose?" because a couple of knuckleheads on a message board make donut jokes?

Give me a break. I agree, the Krispy Kreme jokes are lame...but I don't pity the man. He's loaded...he gets paid millions of dollars to coach football. He's lived the dream long enough. The highs were great, the lows are just too low to excuse. It's time for him to step aside and enjoy retirement. And it's time for UT fans to enjoy some hope, optimisim, and (fingers crossed) championship football for the first time in far too long.

How about just letting the guy go out with a little dignity ,if that's still possible~~

I think it is Fulmer's choice whether to leave with dignity or not. Gracefully announcing his retirement effective at year end would help the program immensely in the new coach search, plus take some of the uncertainty out of the recruiting. Hanging on and fighting until the bitter end, effectively having to be removed kicking and screaming is the worst thing in the world for him and the program. If he wants respect and dignity then he must do the right for the program.

Everybody who thinks that Fulmer should be afforded the opportunity to retire on his own terms, with dignity and respect: ask yourselves how you'd feel about Chavis this year if he had gone behind Fulmer's back this year and schemed to have Fulmer fired and himself installed as head coach. Because that's how Fulmer came to power.

(Except, of course, that it was even more Machiavellian than that because Majors had been in the hospital. And he had the UT program in a lot better shape at the time than it is now.)

You are 100% right. Its way past time for the caveman to step down. I wasn't a big fan of Johnny Majors but since Phil stabbed him in the back what would be wrong for turn about is fair play?

Another holier than thou thread. Ever wonder why you feel the need to defend CPF year after year? Think about it.

It's easy for him to love UT more than any of us probably. This school has made him rich beyond his wildest and wettest of dreams.

If he does the right thing and actually does love this university as much as you claim, he would gracefully step down and realize that he can't do it anymore, and it is time for somebody else to get a shot at it.

I think Fulmer is just upset that he won't get a chance to break Neyland's record and cash anymore big checks for losing to Florida, Saban, Meyer, Richt, Miles, and Tubby. But if he steps down, that would show me a lot about his character and I would truely believe that he loves this university.

Get off the "leave the man alone" BS. The criticism of him goes with the territory. It's no different than, say, criticizing a poorly performing NFL QB, coach, etc...

I have read some comments regarding his family from time to time and that is uncalled for

Every time I see one of these I have to call BS--Fulmer pushed no one out. Majors self destructed had a drinking problem etc

Anyways I still want Fulmer to Retire and not be fired but if he is too arrogant to quit he shall be shown the door rudely.
