Fulmer at the Orange Bowl

And AGAIN, had Hamilton with Big Jim's blessing not worked to undermine the program, Tennessee would not have had any losing seasons and Fulmer would have coached a few more years and finished #2 in SEC history for wins and with his help the succession plan would have kept his train rolling. But when a school treats a legend the way they did....no one would want the job as we saw when the big boys collectively told Hamilton "if Phil can't make you happy then neither can I". Thus we have Lane ruin the program. But hiring Dooley kept the NCAA from dropping the hammer on UT.

Nope. Pre 1998 Fulmer rocked, and those years are why I will always consider him a VFL. Post 1998 he acted like an entitled icon. I still remember the disdain he would show for fan concern. He was finally making good money the last few years (1.5 a year which was big in the pre Saban era) and I developed a strong sense that he was going to sit at that teat as long as he could. He would have NEVER voluntarily stepped aside from that cash stream. I hated the way he was fired but I don’t see any other way that could have gone.

And let’s not overlook the fact that he did not bounce to a new program. Consider that. He was done.

He built the program up, no doubt, and deserves huge props. But towards the end, he was collecting a paycheck, clapping his hands, grimacing a lot, and little else.
He would have been content to win 2 games a season till he passed Neyland's win total. Would have fought and whined just as much.

Im utterly convinced the fan fatigue of bama Clemson over and over will revamp college football or kill it back to its roots

Hey, there’s nothing wrong with eating 4 hotdogs. My point was that anyone thinking he’s up to something regarding our OC search is living in a fantasy land.
Anyone thinking that was your point is living in a fantasyland.
