Might Hamilton keep Phil until after this strong recruiting is landed in Feb. 2009? As soon as the LOIs are signed by Oku, Boyd, Stokes, and the rest, sack Fulmer and bring in his replacement. I realize that this would be pretty deceptive but the talent would be there for a stong run in 2009.

That would be insane.

As much as I want to win, if Hamilton pulled a stunt like that, it would be the biggest travesty in the history of college football and he would need to resign... and release those players from their LOI...

The way I understand it, they can get out of the LOI if you change coaches.

That would be the sleeziest move I could think of. Not to mention if you wait that long, your options of a head coach are pretty slim.

I believe it is the Campus and Knoxville that attracts the recruits.. The statement has been made by several recruits... I think Phil may be a draw for a lot of the parents that think he will take good care of the young men when they get there.. I don't think MH would stoop to a level this low... I think CPF will retire on his own at season's end.. Personally I think he has hand chosen his replacement.. I think 90% of the recruits will sign as they love Knoxville as a whole not just the coach....

Certainly right about some, but most commit to certain coaches.

I have a feeling that a few of the current commits are expecting a coaching change. Might lose some guys if Fulmer stays.

I agree 100% with you, I just don't think that Phil is the only reason we are getting the good recruits.. I think our last couple of recruiting classes would have been a lot better if that was the case... I think Phil is a good recuiter, but I think Clawson and Drayton are getting a better reponse that Phil is.. I could be wrong through... It will be interestig to sit back and watch how it all plays out..

The bad part is, with this staff recruitng, we might actually be able to get it back. I just don't see us sticking with the entire staff.

:good!: I think so too.. I still believe that Clawson was brought in to replace Phil, I think MH and Phil both feel/felt that D. Clawson would be here for a long time.. He fits the current profile for a lot of coaches getting hired... I don't think it was an accident that UT went outside the "family to hire him"... I think they would have kept Troop or promoted one on Cutcliffs guys if that was the case.. I think even Cutcliff saw the writing on the wall when he took the Duke Job...Hamilton has had several chances to replace Phil with Cutliff, but hasn't done it.... I think at least a few of the recruits think that Clawson and his coaching style are the future of UT football.. Some of the recruits seem to love an offense that is schemed to be a lot more of a open/spread than ours currently is.. Again it may be ignorance on my part or I may have watched to many X-File shows..lol

no chance, you might as well expect that if there is a change, some of these guys will decomit. it's part of the process.

I would think that you are right on the money..I don't see how would could stick with all of them.. I don't it would be possible after the horrific season we have been through.. I don't think the "plan" has panned out the way it was drawn up.. It would different if it was the 1st "bump" in the road.... It appears that not only was it not the 1st bump in the road, but we actually have had a whole set of speed bumps installed after the last couple of years..lol

I think some would de-commit for sure, I just think that there are at least a few that may think there is going to be a change.. but you are right it would be hard to keep all of them for sure..

some may just want to come to ut....some are coming only for the relationship they've built with the coaches.....it coms with the territory, but this class will take a hit in some way shape or form when/if a change is made at the top.

and that's ok....short term bad....hopefully long term good...

and you never know, depending on who they hire, he may be able to convince some of those guys to stay on....plus you never know who's going to be retained from the current staff etc...way too many variables right now to speculate....

What good is a top 5 recruiting class if you fail to develop the players or even keep them at the school? How many Parade HS All Americans have crapped out at UT over the past few years?

I don't think so. There have been issues related to this in the past, and it has always been stated that the student has a scholly with the school - not the coach. If no LOI is signed, then they could easily decommit though.

this is correct...there's a beauracratic process involved for getting out of a LOI....if the school won't release you.

see brandon warren's ordeal from FSU....

Amen. If recruiting classes were a direct indication of success, UTK should be a Top 5 team right now.

These recruits can read the tea leaves. You have to think that several of them are counting on a coaching change. Why else would somebody commit to a 3-6 team that is not competitive?

I agree, proof Boyd watches us get beat down and still commits to the school. Also if Hamilton cans him right after landing a monster class, it would be the last quality class for a while.
