I have been watching his play and paying attention to video of him off the court (warm ups, bench, etc.) and it seems this guy has lost that eye of the tiger he had two years ago and his Freshman year. Maybe it's just me. Is it? If it's not it seems we may be worse off with him. He sets the tone for some of these guys as the oldest guy on that team He should be leading this young players by example and not goofing off. I mean 2 Points against UNCG? Something isn't right.

Why reference his stat line from a really specific point in the first half? Is that relevant somehow?

Does it change anything to say he didn’t take any more shots the rest of the game? Do his 3 blocks matter?

Yep, stating that Fulky was 1-3 for the full game would’ve been the better argument.

This type of effort is going to be subpar in the SEC.

Now that I think about it, it's subpar for this game.

Fulky is what he is.
If we’ve learned anything from watching his time at UT we should know there are periods of time where he looks unstoppable, and others where he looks very average.
IMO sometimes we place expectations on kids and the trajectories we expect may not be realistic.
I plan to spend the rest of the season not placing unrealistic expectations on the kid and appreciate watching his efforts on the court, and the time he has spent giving his all for our basketball program.

I hope you’ve noticed everyone had a foot in the paint yesterday daring us to shoot from the outside. 6-39 will do that. That will be the case most nights until they can prove they can be consistent. Hatfield did score some but that was long after the game was decided. Fulk only played about 20 minutes or so. With that said he’s probably still not 100%.

Yes it matters. That was just first and only shot the entire half. This is a guy that put up over 30 points in some games two years ago. And while all three of his blocks came in that first half, that was accompanied two turnovers. He didn't have another block. He's not bringing his A game. Not even close.

In the past he played hard. He didn't take one shot in a half. The point is I saw him cracking up goofing off and have seen that a few times. I appreciate the way he has played in the past. I'm not seeing it this year. My question was, if that's the case, are we any better for it this year.

He had a back injury for all of last season, and has broken three bones in his hand(s) and wrist. The guys body isn’t remotely as strong as it was two seasons ago. Add to that, UNCG playing four men in the box, and you get no stats. Look at his + line. He contributes at a top three almost every game. He definitely isn’t the player he was two years ago, and probably won’t be that again. That said, he does what can in spite of various setbacks.

You saw him “cracking up goofing off,” and that is the reason for his subpar play. Of all the things I’ve read on here recently, your explanation has to be the best analysis of any Vol performance this year. Who in the world would goof off and have fun during the course of a college basketball game? Just downright unacceptable.

All your facts are really going to make some of these people mad. Pragmatism is a rare gift amongst us forum posters.

If he seemed more locked in and aggressive, I'd be able to digest that better. He just always seems to be cracking jokes on and off the court these days. His demeanor on the bench. He doesn't behave like he came back to win anything.

He wasn't like that for most of his career, injured or not. He was always a gamer. He is now the leader.
Everything starts with him. If he slacks off, so will they.

With the exception of our guards, this current team lacks the grit and aggressiveness we had when Schofield, Williams, Bone, Alexander and Turner all played for us. I think if Fulkerson got more aggressive, we would see his efforts transcend beyond his stat line.

That said, If he is too hurt to play 100%, then what play him. If we need a 5th year spotty senior who can only do so much to play, then that is a really bad sign for where our program is at. Our roster is enormous. We have had incredible recruiting classes the last few years.

So, this brings up other questions for me.

No, his lack of competitiveness is. Noone should he constantly goofing off and constantly cracking jokes if they are the leader of their team and playing worse than they were two years ago.

I think somewhere along the lines you forgot this isn't the Girl Scouts. Maybe you should take up daycare, or write for Butch Jones' press conferences. I hear he won two games or so this year and is running out of excuses.
