Frustrated Fulmer

I guess we can cry all we desire, but the bottom line is if we had a winning season last year, recruiting would have taken care of itself. :banghead:
100% agree...kids are drawn to winners. No one wants to be that 5 star guy who goes to a 5-6 school and starts a dynasty. The works too hard and the payoff is too slow. Might say a volume or two about our society and its views on personal ethics.

it's not criticism if it is fact and it is fact. fulmer's talent made him look good in 04. when the talent didn't show up in 05 he just stuck to his game plan and led us into a 5 win season, yep that is a sign of a great coach. and even you said gavol that 04 was a good year not a great year. we haven't had a great season since 98. the fact is we haven't won the sec since 98, we haven't been to a BCS bowl since 98, fulmer has accomplished little since 98. it seems time for a change if he can't accomplish his goal, win the sec. its funny georgia and lsu seem to have little problem winning it every couple of years. with florida and auburn on the upswing i feel unless Cut can save fulmer's rear end we won't have to continue this discussion next season at this time. it's time to face facts, fulmer is as good as his team plays. if they don't dominate the line of scrimmage we are doomed. fulmer will never change which makes him easy to beat.

I believe most here will have to say one of our chief concerns is the advancement of UT Football. I feel certain that Coach Cut (or just about anyone else) will result in an improved UT Football squad in 06. I feel UT has adequate talent to compete for the SECE Title. Now at this point I strongly feel Fulmer's Football Staff has to be held accountable to: develop team discipline, fully use all the speed we pocess, better coach the o line to defend their position, DEVELOP our talent pool to be the best they can be, EXPAND our predictable, slow developing & boring o scheme to be more exciting & to fully utlize every morsal of talent this squad has in the barrel.

Above all, we MUST see game to game team improvement. I believe seeing game to game improvement is a very strong indication of just how well a coaching staff is performing his duties. In most instances.

Obviously everything I've mentioned is simple common sense for improving ANY squad. The frightening thing to me is those very same symptoms have been more than evident since 98 & our Head Coach just simply ignored them. He ONLY decides to make much needed changes after the heat became so heavy he had to! Totally inexcusable to fathom such needed change, from my view point, yet it appears he & his staff expected pay raises every season. WORSE yet many fans accepted this as "Tennessee Football" my friends let's get real!

For those that feel the scheme is sufficient...ask yourself did it do much for Ole Miss? Even beyond that, while Coach Cut was at Ole Miss, that scheme didn't appear to be much of a magnet to attract many top flight offensive recruits from neighboring states like Tennessee, Alabama (even during UA's NCAA investigations), Louisiana, Arkansas as well as nearby Florida & Texas. Could that have been part of OUR problem this year recruiting wise...think about it!

We did finish ranked #4 in 2001 and would have playeed for an NC if UT had beaten LSU for the SEC championship.

As far as the system, I noticed in the super bowl Seatle used an offset I formation like UT does; i.e. no tight end, 3 wide receivers, Fullback and tailback, etc.

They really didnt have a running qb either, just a guy who could scramble to buy time to pass.

For whatever reason this offense didn't work for UT in 2005. Having a qb completing less then 50% of his passes is a big part. Obviously you got to have a very good qb to make this system work and receivers who can catch passes. Notice Seattle would have probably won too had they not had so many dropped passes.

I guess the point is, other people have been using this system successfully in 2005, just not UT.

Huh?? Minimizing a good year and the coach's ability because the offensive line was too good? I've seen a lot of criticisms of Fulmer, but that's a new one.

As George Costanza would say "These kinds of threads cease to exist by their own momentum". :biggrin2:

that was not the fans expectations, yet it was what we were projected to win. Finish 3rd in the east and get 7-8 wins. We over achieved. In 05 we underachieved. However I think CPF has made the moves needed to correct things. I think he deserves the respect and the time to correct the ship. He has earned it.
great facilities, great recruits etc etc. and we over achieved

interesting article here http://rivals100.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=510653.

If you don't want to read the whole thing, he advocates a week-long early signing period in August. Kids who are really committed can sign early and enjoy their Sr. year. The glory hounds can still wait until Feb. and everyone will know that a kid who committed before Aug. but did not sign is full of crap and fair game. The only way a kid who signs in August could back out is if the head coach of the team he signed with leaves the school.
