Vols' Scott confident offense is best for 'athletic' freshman

LaTrell was recruited as a D-lineman at most places, but Larry Scott views him as a Tight End. Here are a few important snippets from the article:

"There's a lot that goes into the evaluation process. He was a project of mine, and every time I got my hands on him in a camp situation, it was enough to make me believe that he could develop and grow into that position and be a true wide tight end." - Larry Scott

"You're talking about a 6-foot-4, 260-pound freshman that can run and bend like a 220-pound guy," Scott said, almost incredulous at the notion of Bumphus play defensive end instead of tight end. "This guy was tracking fly balls in center field for his baseball team. That's pretty athletic for a big man."

Can't wait to see this guy in action. Should add some depth to our TE group this season.

The older Wolf brother was the softest guy on our OL when called on to block as a TE last season. I really hope he steps it up or somebody plays in front of him this year. This youngster at 260 if you tell him to hit somebody on the other team will do some damage even if it's the wrong assignment, get him out there if the other guys start playing soft.

Agree 100%. Sounds like he has all the physical tools. Would love to see him put it all together and become a dominant, All-SEC tight end...we've needed one badly for awhile now and it would change the entire complexion of our offense.

TN has NEVER used TE's like we should going back to Jason Witten! :banghead2:

Great option for an easy first down we almost never use, hopefull that will change! :crossfingers::crossfingers:

I am hopeful that former TE coach Scott will recognize the issue under offensive coordinator Scott. We'll see....

"Bump" is going to surprise. Plays smart at D-end and has good hands and better speed than you would think for a big man when on offense. Above all,a very "good" young guy with a good attitude. Could become a "player to be fondly remembered" at UT.

when cbj came in,he said the tight end was a big weapon in his offense. hasn't happen yet.

Just heard Hubbs talk about how athletic he is and how he impressed the staff was when they saw him shagging fly balls as his high school baseball team's centerfielder....at 6'3" 260.

Are you sure it wasn't Austin Powers playing at centerfield?

Saw this kid play in High School last year and I could tell he was good, but never in a million years did I think he'd contribute as a true freshman. He did play almost the entire game, played a lot of it injured and played on offense, defense and special teams. Glad to hear that he's already having an impact. Go Vols!

This guy has a lot of Witten qualities. Recruited as a DE, very agile and athletic for his size, good hands.

I think we were successful with Mychal Rivera, though even he was probably underutilized.

the 260 part is pretty irrelevant cosidering wolf is 260 now as well.and also really doubt after 3 years of not losing his spot he does in his senior year.

I'd be very surprised if Wolf is above 250...

I've heard Fant will be a TE here and is much larger than thought coming out of high school...can anyone confirm?

If you have "size" and speed, why do you have to be TE? Why not be a wide receiver that scares the hell out of DBs?
