From Cut's mouth

you would think if the qb stunk he would get more balls thrown his way rather than less. Passes to the RB tend to have less risk (are high %) and are many times basically running plays.

They have a WR who is 6"6" and basically runs 10 yrds and turns around. The qb's never look off to other recievers.

I doubt McFadden even hits 1400 yards. Then again, not hitting 1400 yards isn't a bad thing, considering 1400 yards is outstanding. But he won't duplicate the 1600+ from 2006.

I would be willing to bet, if he's not injured, that he hits 1400 and Jones gets 1000. Those 2 are really the only offense they have. I know the O line was hit hard by graduation, but that O is going to be a one trick pony with both backs getting 15 - 25 carries a piece.

I think I saw where they hired David Lee from the Cowboys. Not sure but I think they did after they lost their OC. David Lee was the QB coach for Dallas and I think he did alright with Romo. I hope they don't improve but they should some.

Correct. Lee is there now.

Again, I would advise just waiting until after 2007 to call him the best since Bo Jackson. Ugoh, Parker, and Tubbs were all outstanding and all HUGE. If McFadden has a great season in 2007, I will agree with all of you.

McFadden is pretty good (understatement), but what I'm saying is he will get those yards because of the amount of carries he will get, not how great his line is. He'll have to carry it 25+ times to give Arkansas a chance to win games.

I've seen some really outstanding backs in person at the NCAA level. Jackson is the best but this kid is truly something to behold. I sure hope we have an answer for him. But I can guarantee you barring an injury or him doing somehting in the offseason stupid this kid will be great. I've seen Adrian Peterson and they are not equals.

Is it supposed to be shocking that after losing the top 3 receivers and the starting QB to injury that the offense looks disjointed in March?
uh, let me think.....no.

Not to mention half of the offensive line is out with injury(as was our top TE).
again, 'nother good point.

If the OL is not significantly better the running game will not be any better. Also, I do not think Coker is anywhere near the level of an Irons or McFadden who can just put the team on his back and pound the rock to victory. UT has not had a back of that quality since Travis Henry and Jamal Lewis. The whole season rests with the guys up front on both sides of the ball.
i do think the OL will be better than last year, it can't be worse can it? and the good news for us is that we don't have to have 1 back carry the load. between the three, we should be in pretty good shape. we are fortunate that we don't have to go in to the season with a huge decision to make at RB. all three can do the job, and all three will.

when i read the scrimmage report i admit, my first reaction was of concern. but after reading it again, and you start hearing the names of the folks involved, it's pretty obvious that we are missing some major components.

so i'm sort of in agreement with everyone that says June/July on is when this offense will begin to take shape. the good news is that a lot of the younger guys are getting reps now, and defensively, we are getting some confidence.

I liked TT's comments about the WR's and apparently the "after scrimmage" work for the participants in the scrimmage on offense was appropriate.

it's still early. we still have issues. and we'll have issues going in to the season.......depth up front on both sides, young/inexp. secondary, inexperience and depth at WR--these are still our biggest issues and will continue to be......there is absolutely nothing shocking about this.

Jamal was the best we have had and he is not as good as McFadden.
Irons is a utility back and that is what we seem to have right now. The line will dictate how good we run just like it will for Irons. McFadden is the only back in the SEC who can truly carry his team.

McFadden is great, no question about it...but you make it seem like Jamal Lewis couldn't carry his jock.

As college players, I'd take Lewis over McFadden...either way, you're getting a great back.

And McFadden may be the only back in the SEC that can carry his team, but Adrian Peterson was unstoppable at Oklahoma...I'd also take Peterson over McFadden.

We'll definetly see this year, with Malzhan leaving and Mustain, and Damien Williams leaving McFadden and Jones is it for Arkansas, and if Peyton Hillis stays healthy he'll get alot of checkdown passes in the flat.

Peterson's Oklahoma team did extremely well in his absence for a good reason. He's a nice physical specimen and a terrific athlete, but below average (yes, I said BELOW AVERAGE) in the most important aspects of being an all-world running back: patience and vision.

I don't know how many times Peterson refused to wait on a pulling guard to actually be in the vicinity of a block before he was stretching it further and further outside. Plays are designed with a pulling guard for a reason, and that's to allow a clear seam for a back to slide through. It completely destroys plays if a back wants to get impatient and try to freewheel.

The reason that Peterson's backups did so well in his absence is because they were more patient. It may have been from not being able to accelerate like Peterson, but what they were able to do showed that Peterson isn't a Barry Sanders, Gale Sayers, or even a Reggie Bush.

There will never be another Barry Sanders

I think Peterson will be just fine with being another Shaun Alexander.

Travis Stephens carried a very heavy load in 2001.

Jamal was better.

Think he was mad that Superprep ranked him as a fullback out of high school? Jasper Sanks who?

Why do some fans forget about him? I've never understood it.

He should get a statue for ruining Visor Boy's last home game in the swamp. I've never, and this includes '98 Fla, heard the stadium as loud as when he took the screen to the house vs. UGA in '01. It just shows how the amazing talent we had in the 90s helped even the average players step up his game.

Where you in Neyland for the 04 UF game? Cedric Houston's stiff arm reminded me of that Stephens screen.

That's a fair assessment...he was far below average while rushing for 935 yards in the 6 games he played in this season.
