From an SEC East standpoint, the Bama game is irrelevant

Not when there is likely an undefeated Clemson and tOSU sitting there. If we beat Bama, lose to UGA (close and respectable), UGA beats Bama for their 2nd loss, then we can sneak in if the committee takes a 1 loss team.

Wow, its amazing what road can do to our confidence. We went from hopefully squeaking out a SEC win on the road to the national championship conversation in 1 week!

We are on a completely different level this year than USCjr, Mizzou, Vandy. UK is the only one with talent enough to compete but without Levis they're no good and really not a ton better with him.

We may not be ready to take down bammer and UGA just yet, but we're gonna give them a run no doubt.

After getting through Pitt, UF and LSU unscathed, anything less than 10-2 is unacceptable. We'll just have to disagree on that.
I hope all fans are chosing to enjoy our best season since 2007.

Stop this now. No game is irrelevant. Take every last one of them seriously. As a must win.

Championship teams claim not to listen to the outside noise. And it is wise for coaches to claim that when asked about it. But when the "outside noise" we make is positive? Oh, if a bit of it gets asked of the coach? He will say the same time. That is part of his job. But it still gets around.

Thank Al Gore for inventing the internet. But even before then, what fans were feeling and thinking still somehow would get noticed by the team. There have been games where the Vols should have won, but they lost. And that was because everybody overlooked that weeks game, and the energy was not there. 1979 Nov 3 Rutgers 13 Vols 7. The attention was on the next week when Notre Dame was coming to town. Next week? They rolled the Irish, and a goal post got torn down. (Cops surrounded the other one). Week after? Another loss to Ole Miss, because the energy was depleted the next week.

However, when 1998 came around? A big reason why the Vols brought home a national Championship? The fans kept the energy up. Even when we got discouraged during games, I remember during TV timeouts, guys like Fred White and Deon Grant looking up our way, and waving their arms at us. They knew a loud Neyland stadium gae them the extra energy they needed. Hell, they demanded it.

Now you are entitled to post your opinion on what is relevant, and what is not. It's America, free speech and all that crap.

That being said, you want championships? Shut up with the irrevevency nonsense. Your team needs better.

End of speech.

I think this is something that needs to be kept in mind. With the hype (MOST of it from national media) and the high rank we can start smelling the peak we want to ascend... but we're not there yet.

We're still at least 2 recruiting cycles and 1 or 2 good transfer cycles away from being able to legitimately compete with the likes of Bama/UGA and Clemson/OSU/USC if we make the playoffs.

We have 26 blue chip (4-5* players) right now. South Carolina has 24. UNC has 33. Florida has 46. LSU has 48. Texas has 58. Georgia has 67. Bama has 74.

Vandy has 4. We're literally closer to Vandy (22) than Georgia in talent. Be happy with ANYTHING at this point. Be happy we beat Florida and are being taken seriously and have a shot at 10+ wins.
While I agree with your overall point, that talent analysis isn’t taking into account player development, game planning or in-game coaching. I’d put our staff up against anyone in those areas. That’s why we whipped LSU and really had Florida whipped until they got a couple late scores even though they have more stars.

No doubt. I think the hope/confidence comes from going 3-0 in our pre-season "toss-up" games. I think the range for this season was 7-5 on the low end to 10-2 on the higher end depending on how those games shook out. Now that we swept those, the rest is gravy. We just can't pull a Lyle and waste the capital we have built early in the season and give back a game or 2 we shouldn't. Honestly, 10-2 with a Sugar Bowl would be an amazing cap to year 2. Now that we are close, I think we are getting greedy. It's been a long 16 years.

The Bama game is not irrelevant at all. It is potentially a conference win over a team that has owned us for too damn long. Win this game and UGA is the only team standing in our way from an SECCG appearance.

Well? I am not going to infringe on rights. It's still America. But you also have the God given right to STFU about crap that brings your team down. Exercise it!

Yep, we all have the right to be as stupid as we want just like we all have the right to tell each other how stupid they’re being. It sure is a great country! We just can’t call each other stupid on here. That makes the mods mad, or so I hear. Go Vols!

People need to wake up! Are we undefeated? YES! But we haven't even played the tough part of our schedule yet. Remember we were in the exact same position in 2016 but we beat Florida AND Georgia and wound up in the freaking Music City Bowl! It ain't over until ALL the games are played! We need to beat Bama like they served us our supper cold. Until then we are nothing! Go Vols!
Stop it. We aren’t “nothing” even if Bama and UGa both beat us

I think you're agreeing with a point I made subtly. We dominated teams who have a significantly large talent advantage over us (for now, I hope) at least until conservative D and O playcalling allowed Florida back in the game.

I wouldn't consider the USC or UK games as gimmes just yet.

Assuming we are able to take care of Mizzou/SC/Ky/Vandy, where we should be heavy favorites in all of them, the Bama game really doesn’t affect our chances of winning the East.

Beat Bama, lose to Georgia, we don’t win the East.

Beat Bama, beat Georgia, win the East.

Lose to Bama, beat Georgia, win the East.

Lose to Bama, lose to Georgia, don’t win the East.

So really this game is a matter of just giving us a little cushion to possibly blow one later on and still win the division. It all comes down to what we do against Georgia, regardless of how Saturday goes.

Honestly, I wish we were playing Georgia this weekend. They have been struggling, but they’re going to figure it out. It would be nice to catch them right now while we’re read hot, and they’re working on some issues.
Only way we winning the east is if we beat Ga and win out besides bama. West teams don't matter for making it to SEC game only east

If UT goes 10-2 it will be exceeding reasonable expectations. Year 2 after the mess that CJH started with and this much buzz. Just amazing.

If bama wins the meltdown around here will be comical and unwarranted.

I think a "close" loss--say, 45-35--won't result in much meltdowns (hopefully). But something like a 45-17 will cause mayhem.

I don't think the latter will be the case, but I think if we win it's going to be by a small margin.

I'm not delusional enough to believe that UT has any chance of going to the playoffs this season.

I do know that as a fanbase, we NEED this victory worse than a crackhead needs a fix when they wake up.

15 years is long enough.
Delusional? I mean if you beat Bama and win the games you’re supposed to you’re def worthy of a playoff spot that’s not delusional at all
