I've seen a lot of people on here saying that this is only a good commit if Da'rick Rogers comes with Nance. As someone close to the program, I have to defend this kid. Nash is a very smart, level-headed young man with the right priorities. He is the kind of kid that will absolutely soak up the coaching he will get at UT. He is also the kind of great infuence you want in the locker room. He may not come in with the hype of some other QB signees, but he does have the tools to progress into a successful SEC qb. There is something to be said for having a good attitude and brain for the position. Many would argue that that is one of the most important attributes a QB must have to be successful. Not to mention he has the physical tools and will only get stronger in our program.

I'll leave you with a list of QBs who have been successful due primarily to good minds/attitudes:

*before you guys shred me, claiming that I compared Nance to Peyton Manning, these are simply some guys that have been successful due in part to mental prowess.

- Peyton Manning (no explanation needed)
- Kurt Warner (lacks an awesome arm, but great smarts)
- Rich Gannon (threw for nearly 5,000 yards two times
due to mental prowess-not a cannon arm)
- Shaun King (near tops in the nation at Tulane)
- Major Applewhite (most underrated qb in his day)
- many more...

just my opinion. take it or leave it
I's like to hear from you guys on the topic. thanks

How could you compare Peyton Manning to Nance . . . ;)

Thanks for the input. I am hoping he was a diamond in the rough. If CJC likes him, bring him on board and lets see what he's got.

You are right that it takes smarts first, then the arm next. He could be good. Chaney thinks that he can turn him into something so i have faith.

So you're from Calhoun. I have family there as well, and they say Da'rick isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. Would you agree with that?

You happen to know the Lumpkins?

I was excited about Nash before Da'Rick commited... These other people only look at stars.. Nash will prove plenty of people wrong.

Nash has the ability. from his videos that ive seen he looks like a solid QB. But of course his videos don't really show any mistakes that he's made. If CJC says he's worth the scholly then I'm all for it. I trust in our coaches....

I agree 100% with the original poster. In fact, I have heard Tyler Bray and Matt Simms were looking at other school options once Nance committed. People keep acting like Nance was a free scholarship so we could get Da'Rick, but the coaching staff was actually HIGHER on Nance than they were Rogers. The staff really values smarts and Nance has 4.0 while Rogers may not qualify.

There is no doubt he will be the starter this year..I just hope we can keep him all 4 years and he doesn't go pro after his Junior year.

There were some rumors that Nash may forego college and go to the CFL to make him more NFL ready. Let's hope for our sake thats not true.

Do you think he will see the field and be able to take advantage of these assets? It would be great if he does, that will likely mean that he has earned the opportunity.

There is plenty of doubt. The other quarterbacks are already in school and will go thru spring practice. Nance looks like a redshirt to me.

Are you talking about Nance?I would say there is a 99.99999% chance that he isn't the starter next year. And it's not the CFL we should be worried about it's the WHL, apparently Bret Hart wants Nash to play for the Calgary Hitmen and he is seriously considering the offer, TIFWIW.

More Importantly...did you really put Shaun King in the same circle as Peyton Manning and Kurt Warner?!?! I don't know what you've been smokin' buddy, but you should probably smoke a little less of it! With that analogy, how can anyone take you seriously?

I think u guy's sarcasm meter is broken... That's over the top, and I love it! As long as he wears muscle tees, armwrestles and turns his hat backwards, aka turning the switch on, we should be da bomb

My grandfather has a great attitude and would love to "soak up some coaching". Does this make him a great candidate for a sucessful QB at UT as well???????????

Just saying.....

I knew Pete Gibbons would be all over this one. I was actually surprised he wasn't the OP.

I wish Nash a succesful career just like any other vol, but let's get real here. Bray is the future of Tennessee; he has the arm, and the frame, and has proven it at all the major camps. He has been endorsed by Herbstreet and many other analysts sayins he has the potential to be the best qb in this class. I just don't see Nash getting any meaningful PT in his career unless Tyler gets hurt.
