Then the writers of Deadpool stole it from PACAF and 8th Air Force who used that term "maximum effort" which became "max effort" to fly everything that could get into the air and carry bombs over North Vietnam during the Christmas bombing of 1972. Many aircraft that had been grounded for various maintenance issues had those waived to get into the air at that time.

I was one who kept supporting Coach Butch Jones at Tennessee until it became virtually pointless once the writing was on the wall. There's always more than one side to a story, but for now it seems the program is back on solid ground. The Legend Fred White makes good points with his insights here. With AD Fulmer and his choice Coach Pruitt at the helm, there's a feeling by most that things are headed in the right direction. So you know what that means...

It's Football Time in Tennessee!

Good article. Ive found myself this week constantly thinking of how bad a coach Butch was and what hes done to Tennessee football program. It just makes me angrier and angrier. We are still being affected by his terrible coaching. I feel bad for the players that he coached and never developed properly. I just cant get my head around our athletic program even considering for the head coach position

He brought a lot of NFL talent the first 2 recruiting classes. Outside of that it has been average talent at best. Once them players left, he wasn't able to produce. In year 5, I believe he should have the talent to sustain or improve on previous seasons. Even in 2016, it was like the team didnt even believe in him anymore and was playing for themselves and teammates. I believe without Dobbs and Barnetts leadership that season implodes well before it did. We were a few plays away from that 5-0 start to going 1-4 or 2-3. Hail Mary against GA, come back against FL and VA Tech, and the OT fumble recovery for a TD. We had the talent and experience that I believe should have never had close games against Vandy, SC, and possibly FL. Just my opinion anyways.

After the Florida game we'll have a much clearer picture about not only where we're at but how far to go. I'm joining the camp that thinks there should be no rankings until week 5.

the problem shoop had here was two things........he never ever had the personnel up front to run the defense he wanted to. and butch jones didn't let him bring in guys he wanted. now he may have been hamstrung from a salary standpoint, but i never got the impression we ever saw what shoop was capable of as a DC at TN. never had the depth on the line or linebackers (in numbers or quality) he needed.

he'll have a front four at MSU. and it'll be amazing how all the sudden shoop fixes his perception by season's end.

If you have a strong front four you're going to look much better than if you dont. Regardless of your coaching ability...

Personally don't buy these conspiracy theories that the administration hamstrung him. Jones or whoever is coach being successful will almost always be the best outcome for everyone involved.

Agree...and this says as much about Dave Hart as it does about Jones. Gave the guy an extension. Bean counters in charge.

I always hated Butch's offense. It was painful to watch. He mismanaged the roster he had. Dobbs was the only reason we had some decent years. Had we had a real coach with those rosters, we would be a very good football team today and rolling.

In 16 we had a good season by wins and losses, but it always felt in spite of Butch. Dobbs bailed him out more than any situation he was put in. 17 After GA Tech, I knew it was over for Butch. He was never going to win here like we expect. Yes we pulled out the win, but we looked terrible.

His offense was dog poop

15 and 16 were "what might have been" seasons. We left more on the field in both of those seasons than we should have, and is what sperated Butch from mediocre/average and good.

Butch Jones had Larry Scott as an OC because of Butch Jones and no one else. He sank the ship that he built. Him and his infallible offense. Him and his little man personality, condescending and equally ignorant. A terrible human being that I'm happy to see the back of.

A competent coach has us in the playoff hunt in 2015 and 2016. The best DE in the nation and one of the nations most exciting offensive players as well as multiple future NFL players for two years and not even a NY6 bowl to show for it. Atrocious. Healthy football programs need leaders to win championships, not keep them from going 4-8.

That is what people assume. The truth is that PSU became successful because their offense, not defense, became elite. I know App atate took us to overtime but with only 13 points. They put 38 on PSU.
