I'd be happy with any I've seen on the short list including Kelly or Willingham. I'm just ready to move on and get this wreck of a season behind us. :mf_surrender:

That's because Chavis can't quit whining about how he should be next in line. Why would we promote from within when our foundations are falling apart? Somebody get him a waaa burger and some french cries so he'll STFU.

Why is anyone surprised that Fred White would support his former coach? That is not surprising nor is it a bad thing. I dont agree with him a bit, but I understand it.

Support and reality are two different things. If the two were connected we would not have the first four episodes of American Idol which I love to watch folks worse then me sing a tune.

I don't think he wants to be the head coach. He has said it before that he wouldn't want to that. I think he isn't even on the list.

BUT he has done a great job this year with our guys. Too bad we have an Offense that can't score or who knows what the year could have been.

Good job this year Chief!

Just ok.

Looked pathetic in second half against UCLA and pass defense is still suspect. Every time a good team needs
3rd and long against us, they get it. I won't be unhappy to see him go.

Jimmy Sexton said this morning that Hamilton will use the same search model he used to get Pearl. Find a coach that is doing well with limited resources and then let him explode with UT's resources.

He went on to say that the majority of UT fans will be initially disappointed with the announcement of the new coach. His opinion only and also said that it is too early in the process for him to guess who the coach will be. But knowing Hamilton, this was his assessment.
Hamilton hired Pearl on the strong recommendation of Ernie Grunfeld.

If they named Chavis as head coach....I would never root for TN again. That would be the WORST decision MH could possibly make. JC used to go to my church when I lived in TN. I cant stand the guy.

I also went to church w/Coach Chavis while I lived in Knoxville. He really is a great guy....not what you'd expect from the way he acts on the sideline. I'd like to see him stay as DC, but not sure he's the right choice for head coach.

From the way he acts on the sideline??? You mean standing like a totem pole, stoic, with an occasional grimace?

You are correct. Anyone who has spent anytime with Chavis will tell you he is a very good guy and easy to get along with. Like him as a coach or not he is a nice guy. With that said I dont think he should be our Head coach.

Not at all true. Not according to a lady who worked closely with all of them for the past 24+ years and retired a couple of years ago.

Um yeah. He's actually a very friendly guy.

I guess I can understand why some people may not like him as a coach, but to judge him as a person based on what you see on the field isn't fair.

True but had he played the media better in the early days and beyond instead coming off as an arrogant type he would probaably be getting a big look right now. His PR skills doomed him if an HC job was what he was after. At UT or anywhere else.

I know what you're saying...and no I don't think its a bad thing to support your former coach...but he made himself look like an idiot homer by saying that...

I understand supporting your former coach if he's even a remote candidate for the job...but Chavis hasn't been seriously mentioned by anyone and most would laugh at the idea...

White is a regular on local TV and radio talk shows...for him to make such a bold and ridiculous statement...regardless of what kind of loyalty it shows...is a serious threat to any credibility he has as a "UT football expert"...

I can honestly say I'm going to be skeptical of any "expert" opinion he offers from this point on and I wouldn't be surprised if alot of people who heard him make that declaration with such conviction share my opinion
