Had some really good responses and views expressed for game 1.

The top 2 were:

O Line play and down field passing were the hot topics along with a couple of posters going back and forth over Hurd being physical enough. After the game these concerns were spot on. App St is a lot better than most of us thought and I hope they win the rest of their games.

On to the Battle Of Bristol.

My four this week.

#1 How long will Dobbs play and be effective with his injury. Hoping as long as needed.

#2 Player safety and injuries. With the turf only being 3 weeks old will it hold up or come apart and cause players to trip and stumble.

#3 Which team will get over the hype faster and get into their game plan.

#4 Defense - Overall didn't do bad last week but need to pick up the pace this week because the offense will need a lot of help.

They'll have no other choice with this up tempo offense. Having JRM back will be huge. We need our defensive leader out there. His legs should be really fresh too since he had to sit out the 2nd half.

I want to see energy and a balanced attack. We looked lethargic for the 1st half of App St.I have a feeling our guys will way too pumped to let that happen this time. I have hope that we won't run Hurd on the dive play every 1st down and that Deboard will mix in some intermediate passing early like our 1st drive last week.Assuming we can give JD more than 2 sec to throw.

Did I miss something or did Jones not say that Dobbs was 100% and didn't josh say he was 100%?

He did, people are just continuing to labor under the assumption that it's all a facade and that his ribs are actually broken.

#2. Is there still widespread concern that the AstroTurf roots will not have taken hold by Saturday?

Here's what I think will happen. VT will stuff every aspect of Tennessee's offense. Question is will Butch adjust like most successful coaches or will he just be stubborn and lose the game.

My plan would be:

Start Dobbs - Two senseless picks and he's coming out/ 4 possessions without any productivity, he's coming out especially if VT is having success.

Game plan - Very aggressive offensively

70% pass 30% run because VT will try and stuff the run forcing UT to pass. Pass early and often so you don't feel like you have to start passing to be successful. Dink and dunk all day. It will open up the run some.

Every possession take one shot down field whatever down doesn't matter especially like 2nd and 2 play action

Play a lot of no back, spread the field to give Dobbs some running room. They don't do a lot of that so VT would likely not be preparing to see that a lot. Show regular formation and then audible a two back set where Hurd and Kamara goes into the slot receiver positions on the audible. Personnel wise VT would probably have a heavier set package on defense and this would spread the field opening up spacing for quick explosive plays.

Goa line - send in power I type formations and use quick misdirection on the snap and then some straight power runs. That assuming they make it to the goal line often. Hopefully they will.

Several middle screens slipping Kamara up front if VT over penetrates a lot. The bubble screen has very little production, scrap it

Move North and south. Tennessee tries to get the edges too much. Scrap the jet sweep. that play never produces a lot of yards. The quick hits to the TE was very good in the App State game. Nice to see them involved.

Overall - Put them in positions where their scheme doesn't defeat you. Put them in situations where if my player is better than your player , you will get beat! Be very aggressive and ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK!!!!!

Ever notice that Jones never wears a short sleeve shirt

I havent but he's probably rockin' a sleeve tattoo. Lord knows the judgement coming down on folks from some quarters if they have ink ... even though their granny in Copper Basin rocks a tramp stamp. CBJ prolly just wants to avoid all that would be my guess.

I think I have more than 4, but I'll try to limit them.

1) How does Dobbs look? Jones was pretty adamant that he was fully healthy. That kind of makes me think that he's not fully healthy. What does his 1st throw look like? Is he hesitant to tuck and run? When he drops back to pass, will he trust that his OL can give him time, or will he look like he's seeing ghosts, just expecting a protection breakdown from somewhere? (yeah that was a lot of questions smashed into #1)

2) Our OL, and specifically the middle of it. VT will be stunting and throwing complex looks at them. How do they respond to an awful showing last week?

3) On Defense - do we do a better job this week of defending the jet sweep? I think we will see a lot of these. We really struggled against App State on this particular play

4) Overall team intensity and focus. We were ranked #9 preseason. This team's pride must be hurting. I want to see us come out and make VT believe pretty early in the game that they have no chance to beat us. That they're sick of the doubters and have something to prove. That if we do get up by a couple scores that it only increases our intensity level to prove that what happened last year is not going to happen this year.

If this isn't Butch covering up Dobbs injury like he did Worley, then Dobbs plays the whole game. Anyways I'm looking for
1. Oline play
2. Letting Dobbs loose running the ball
3. Utilizing Kamara
4. Oline play

I want to see the OL and DTs play with an attitude. I was surprised at how much more physical App State was than us on the lines (the D line picked it up in the 2nd half but was pushed around early).

Wishful thinking by some. Don't you know there's a "quarterback controversy"?

Not sure if this was directed at what I posted, but I've said before that with our OL, we'll be in big trouble without Dobbs. The "100% healthy" thing just seems so out of the norm for what Jones usually releases about injury status that I don't know what to make of it. I guess "take it at face value" is really what I should do. But that's why I said what I said in my #1.

It wasn't directed to you. Just what I've observed from reading a few threads on the board. Multiple people saying there is a QB controversy. But I will go back and look for your post haha

How many times do we have to discuss Dobbs' down the field passing ability? Yes he occasionally will make a good throw but times than not he either throws high or misses wide open receivers. I am not sure why this is beaten to death on a daily basis. He is a senior. If he can't throw consistently down the field now, chances are he never will.

I am seriously trying to figure out if this is a serious post or not. Kudos to OP if he is just having fun, because if he is it is a grand post. If he is being serious, well, I don't know what to say.
