The punishment that didn’t fit the crime was Pearl’s. Show cause for that?He was a poor head coach but let's just face it the punishment did not fit the crime. If you look at what has been going on at the NCAA's pet programs for years with them turning a blind eye, it is egregious and he should sue them for damages. To take a guys ability to make a living for doing what literally every other school and head coach was doing is ridiculous. He learned how to do it from their favored boy Saban.
I just can't hate on the guy. I know his dad, he coached at my high school. Dad's a good guy. Honestly, Fulmer should have never hired him. He wasn't ready for the big time yet. He was in over his head. He realized he wasn't winning, panicked, and started offering money and being backhanded. He failed.
Dude was a stellar defensive coordinator, and there was no reason to think that he was gonna be anything less than Kirby Smart (except Kirby inherited a lot better situation). JP was a brilliant defensive mind, and a good recruiter. But he was not a good leader, and could not be the CEO of a program. Hopefully he has learned from his mistakes and is able to have some success as a coach again...in a school not named Tennessee.
What good did he do?!?Pruitt did some good things but overshadowed by the bad things. He brought or bought some talent that Heupel won some games with. Always had good defense ready after a bye week(Auburn). Went on 8 game winning streak over parts of two seasons. Old school when he was kicking whiteboards and grabbing face mask he was winning. I think someone in administration told him he couldn’t coach like that, and evidently that was the only way he could coach.
