Duck Sports News Blog Blog Archive DSN: Peter Sirmon to join Wilcox at Tennessee

Duck Sports News has learned that former Ducks and Tennessee Titans Linebacker Peter Sirmon has officially accepted a Graduate Assistant position at the University of Tennessee. Sirmon now joins former Duck player and Boise State Defensive Coordinator Justin Wilcox in Knoxville.
Sirmon, 33 (34 on February 18th), is a native of Walla Walla, Washington. At Walla Walla High School, Sirmon was named Washington Defensive Player of the Year by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer after leading his team to the State AAA Championship game. After a four-year letterman linebacker career at the University of Oregon, Sirmon was drafted in the fourth round by the Tennessee Titans. In 2006, Sirmon retired after playing seven years in the NFL.
Before serving as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Oregon this past season, Sirmon was Linebackers Coach at Central Washington University for the 2008 season.

I guess this is good. All I know is I never gave any consideration to who the GA is up until a year ago. I wonder if this means that CLT will be spending a lot of time on the road recruiting since this guy can teach the LBs a lot.

Solid hire. He was a stand up, blue collar worker for Titans.

And smart too. He called all the D's plays and was credited by Keith Bulluck & Jeff Fisher as such.

Also, he's an Oregon alum and former staff member so he may have some very interesting info come September.

How long does the GA position last?
Like a year? Or as long as he's a graduate student?

What are the odds he's on our sidelines for a while?

Had the pleasure of briefly knowing him while he was with the Titans. Always got the impression that he was a hard worker and was very smart.

Good addition.

that will be a valuable tool to have teaching our LBs to recognize offenses. seems like a great pick up.

Especially for Nick Reveiz who, now that I think about it, reminds me an awful lot of Sirmon. Not the most athletic guy, but a smart instinctive player who will lay the wood come gametime.
