All is not well in the PAC-10, unless you're the opponent of USC. USC is starring down the barrel of multiple majors in two programs. Add to that, the U's apparent lack of desire to investigate the charges and what you have here amounts to a "lack of instutional control".

A likely Final-Four squad has now impoded with most of the recruiting class having been released from their committments to the USC.

It's becoming clear that R. Bush and his family received large sums of cash and housing. As soon as that's confirmed by the NCAA.... Are we about see death administered to USC?

the Bush incident has been investigated so long, I really doubt the NCAA is going to do anything

and two of our coaches were on that staff

No way the get the death penalty, not enough political will. I don't think they deserve it either.

Its been investigated a long time, however, the fire has been stoked this week, breathing new life into the allegations. Yes, I'm aware we have coaches that were on staff while Bush was there, which is why I brought it up. I know there is an old thread about this, but things are starting to happen @ USC now, so I though it was worth mentioning.

After what it did to SMU, I don't see the NCAA ever bringing death onto an athletic department again. SMC still hasn't recovered and likely never will.

I hope the hammer falls hard on USC football and basketball, irrespective of us having coaches on their prior staff. Cheating is cheating. While I think the rules regarding college athletes receiving benefits/compensation should be changed, the rules are what they are now. That said, I doubt the NCAA has the backbone to give USC anything more than a slap on the wrist like what they did with Bama.

The NCAA isnt about to kill a sacred cow. USC will forfeit a few wins, lose a few scollys and make Bush give the Heisman to its rightful owner {Vince Young}. I would find it hard to believe they will not be bowl eligible or will not be aloud to play on tv

Death penalty will NEVER happen again, especially to an elite program like USC that makes the NCAA a lot of money. They are going to have to prove that USC knew Bush was receiving money and whatever else from this agent dude. If they honestly didnt know, I dont see why the University should be punished because Bush is an idiot. The basketball program is in trouble.....but I bet the Football team gets nothing more than a slap on the wrist.

One key issue here is USC is a private institute and they do not have to turn over records to the NCAA investigators, the bush saga will never be solved

I totally agree, they should give Bush's Heisman to Young, and then his career would be complete.

You're seriously comparing players being paid large sums of money to play for a team with a few players getting extra textbooks for their friends?

1) What is your source and what do you consider large sums of money?

2) Didn't the investigation show that Bama football players were receiving between 2-3 thousand dollars? This sounds like more than "getting extra textbooks for their friends". Many people would consider 2-3 thousand dollars "large sums of money".

1. I don't know the going rate of a house in LA, but I'm assuming it's more than one in Huntsville, AL which I would consider a "large sum of money".

2. No, the players did not receive a dime. They received books that were worth that much, had they bought them. BUT, all the books were returned. Under scholarship, Bama athletes are only allowed to USE the books for the semester. At the end of the semester, the books must either be returned, or paid for. All the books in question were returned. It was simply a few players saving their friends from having to buy books. They got extras and then turned them back in at the end of the semester.

1) You said that players (plural) were being paid large sums of money to play for USC. What does that have to do with Reggie Bush's parents' house?

2) "A total of 201 student athletes from 16 sports including football were involved and the total value of the improper benefits was $40,000. The committee found that 22 of the athletes receiving almost $22,000 in benefits who were aware they were impermissible."

"Over 200 students used their "books and tuition" scholarships to obtain textbooks they shouldn't have. Some were given to friends, some were obtained to sell to others."
