Forget about ESPN, ...

In before ESPN hates us, but who cares. Get us some wins, bring back the fans. I can take it, hire Jimbo, hire Petrino, hire Golden, just win.

You realize this went over the head of 99% of the board.

:)

Yes, my eyes or brain stopped working about midway through the article.

The executive summary findings are not very optimistic about our next coach's chances for W/L improvement.

My problem with the analysis is this: some guys win wherever they go. Maybe I didn't read far enough, but I didn't find anything in the paper concerning the effects of hiring a proven winner.

I think a study has shown, if they don't win nine in year two, their system isn't going to work. In a few cases, it takes the third year.

Dear Lord, I felt like I was reliving the last 5 years in disturbingly accurate detail while reading that. Interesting read (if you're in to that sort of thing), but it's definitely not "revelatory" material. It basically lays out what most college football fans, especially we VolNation faithful, already know about the ebbs and flows of major collegiate football programs and the potential ramifications of a coaching change. If your previous coach, history, recruiting, etc. sucked, you will still probably suck regardless of who you hire. Sure they may right the ship by comparison, but chances are they will eventually be holding that same pink slip their predecessor held 4 years prior. However, in the case of historically top tier programs that have rich history, favorable facilities, and above average recruiting classes/wining % (regardless of coach), the opportunity that a potential coaching change presents can outweigh the risks! The last section where they address their potential research/model gaps should give all of you standing on the ledge enough reason to breathe deep and step away. Just as previously stated, a proven winner can quickly become an outlier in this study. Keep the faith, VolNation!!
