ESPN - Pat Forde: Dashing through the Notre Dame Irish snow

Good EB mention

Eric Berry (26). There will be no NFL translation problem for Berry, once he becomes eligible for the draft in 2010. Tennessee's sophomore safety returned his 12th career interception 45 yards Saturday, furthering his SEC-record interception return yardage to 265 yards. Dead ahead is the NCAA record of 302. Special Dash correspondent Gene Wojciechowski watched Tennessee beat Vanderbilt on Saturday and reported that outgoing coach Phil Fulmer gave Berry a game ball, which was promptly returned to sender. "I'm a proud owner of a game ball we gave to Eric," Fulmer said. "He gave it back to me."

Fordes stats for Berry are confusing. they are for a single season, but read like they are career numbers.

This is more accurate:

Berry is leading the nation in interceptions, with seven, and has already set the all-time career SEC record for interception return yards with 487 yards. The NCAA record for interception return yards is 501, set by Terrell Buckley of Florida State. Berry also has aleady set the single season SEC record interception yardage mark with 265 yards.

Berry = heisman 2009.

Only if he returns Punts/Kicks successfully, and is involved somehow in the offense....and he would need the same if not better stats & production on defense. It is a very slim chance.

The major thing preventing berry from being considered for the heisman is that he is a safety. woodson was a shutdown corner that always took away the opposing teams best threat at receiver. i think that is the one weakness that berry can still improve on is his coverage skills. he is a ball hawk and a punishing hitter but can get turned around a lil bit in 1 0n 1 situations with his guy in the slot. in order to receive consideration next year he would have to put up BETTER numbers, make a couple game changing plays, show the ability to shut down aj green, julio jones, harvin, etc. on top of playing offense and scoring touchdowns on that side of the ball. in my opinion, he is easily the best defensive player in the country and one of the top 5 players period regardless of position or class.

The heisman will go to the Quarterback. With the spread mentality in college football now-a-days, people tend to only focus on the Quarterbacks on a BCS bound team.

Disagree. He is as good as or better than Woodson from Michigan when he won it. Will he win it? Probably not but wouldn't say "not even close".

I agree his name will get thrown around, but his chances of winning are slim to none, unfortunately, it just doesn't go to defensive players.
