I have to admit that I was one of the ones who thought Bradshaw was a mistake. Remember all the talk about taking Bradshaw over Humphrey (even though some will insist it was Scooter who we took instead of Humphrey)? I know I would not trade Dane Bradshaw for Humphrey right now! (no offense in any way to Lee Humphrey).

dane bradshaw makes so many hustle plays. he is never just standing around. I was upset when he shot two threes in a row and missed both. i thought one of them where dropping today... hope he has a big game aginst lsu. everyone will need to play good aginst lsu if we want to win.

He was making those shots against SC. Pearl says he makes them in practice.

proably just a bad game. well not really a bad game just shooting wise, but thats not really his role in the game... pearl needs him to learn how to make a running layup...

everybody is playing above themselves because of Pearl. If it was based on talent alone, Bradshaw wouldnt belong in the SEC.

Bradshaw is deceptively big, also...he's the shortest "bruiser" on the team at 6'4". He's always under the basket rebounding and he gets us a ton of over theback calls when he goes up for the ball...a few of these games have different outcomes if he's not in there 35 minutes.

Its all about work ethic. Pearl has instilled that and the kids are now hustling and liking it.

It's almost funny watching him bump and bash with the big boys inside. I'll tell you this: no one works harder for his marks in the scoring books -- he is always hustling, not afraid to get underneath and fight for a rebound, harassing on defense. . . .and if he heats up from the arc, already having Chris and CJ, it will be tough for anybody to outscore us.

All in all, his work ethic is an example not just for our basketball team, but for young athletes everywhere. Props.

I am glad to see Dane shooting the ball. The deeper we go into SEC play the more his scoring will be needed. When he starts hitting the defenses will have to gaurd him tighter, which in turn will make it a little easier on Smith, Watson and lofton to get some looks.

Early last night Dane took a couple of wide open threes, and missed them... he made a couple of bad passes in the game. I was thinking "here we go again, that's the Dane Bradshaw I know." but the guy played through it, and played hard. Dane never lets up, and in the end, his overall performance last night was above average.

I think all we need Dane to do is take care of the ball, get his assists, and keep crashing the boards(sad we have a 6'4" guy that HAS to crash the boards), but he doesn't have to shoot it, we have plenty of shooters on the team.

That's something Pearl said the other day... CJ and Jujaun are good friends off the court and that breeds cooperative play on the court...I love these guys!!!!!!!!! GO VOLS

I'll gladly eat the crow here: I was the CEO of Bradshaw Bashers, Inc. last season, but he's really improved his play. To me, the key area of improvement is his ball handling; up until last night's game, he had gone, I believe, 6 consecutive games without a single turnover. That's an incredible stat. He was pretty much a turnover waiting to happen last season. His shooting is still a bit suspect, but his contributions to this team in terms of assists, rebounding (sigh), steals, and out-around hustle definitely earn him a starting nod.

If we want to win the next 3 games everyone will have to play good....@ Memphis, LSU and Florida...Don't know where LSU and Florida are at but either way those are going to be two tough games

Next 4 games

at LSU (Fox Sports South)
at Memphis (CSTV)
Florida (Fox Sports South)
at Miss State

as of last Sunday, on collegerpi.com, the Vols are 16th
LSU (7-5) is 92nd
Memphis (13-2) is 2nd (#4 AP)
Florida (14-0) is 15th (#5 AP)
Miss State (11-3) is 90th

LSU, Florida and Miss State were all NCAA tournament teams last season. Memphis was in the NIT Final Four.

Regarding Bradshaw.... he may not be the best by himself.... but he fits this team's chemistry perfectly. Same for Asumnu.

Buzz seems to have evaluated each player as a stand-alone and not how each player can fill a role. Asumnu is a perfect example. Buzz was quoted many times saying that Asumnu was athletic, the best defensive player on the team, and sometimes explosive offensively in practice..... yet his playing never matched what Buzz said about him?

Evaluating Buzz's thinking would seem to be something of a fool's errand.
Unless one is the sports writer covering Coastal Whatever School where he is now, I can't imagine how it could possibly matter.

One thing's for sure, AllVol, this season's "string of Pearls" were definately created through better chemistry....

Pearl does not have these players playing "above" themselves or "overachieving" because those are two of the most mis-used terms in sports. A player cannot overachieve, but what he can do is maximize every ounce of ability. And, that is what Pearl is doing with these teams. Its like the good 'ol sports adage "give 110%" when that is not possible. It is not possible for players to play "above" themsevles or to "overachieve." These terms are used so much because people don't realize how much potential most people have and how good people could be if the maximized their abilities. You say Dane overachieves because of what he accomplishes against bigger most physically gifted players, but think about what Dane would accomplish if those bigger more gifted players were maximizing thier abilities in the same way that Dane is? He wouldn't be as effective. Maximizing the abilities of college basketball players is few and far between. Its amazing that Pearl has been able to do that with his players in such a short time. And, none of the them are even fully maximized yet. They can all get even better.
