Dateline: H.A. Chapman Stadium, Tulsa, Ok.
1. Oklahoma sleepwalks and still handles a team that will play in a bowl with ease. Kind of like watching Bernard Hopkins fight. They turned it on and off.
2. Paul Smith can quarterback my team anytime. If he were the QB in Tallahassee, the Seminoles would win the ACC.
3. Those of you whole love chessboard football should love Tulsa's Todd Graham. I'm not sure I can think of a formation the Golden Hurricanes didn't line up in at least once.
4. First glitch of the trip. Sorry I couldn't catch up with you, oklavol.
5. "Talent" in Tulsa is average at best. I was going to be even more harsh in my assessment, until I saw a dance team member with the body of Serena Williams and the face of Nia Long.
6. Met Billy Sims. We was signing autographs outside The Buckaneer. Life after football hasn't been kind to #20.
7. As usual, Jim Ross was on the Sooner sideline. I think UT should follow suit and have either Les Thatcher or Lance Russell stand with the Vols.
8. The OU obsession with Texas is like nothing I've ever seen, except possibly Alabama-Auburn. Everything the Sooners do is viewed through the prism of what it means vis a vis the first Saturday in October in the Cotton Bowl.
9. Texas A&M should be glad they don't play Tulsa. I'll be interested to see how C-USA shakes out.
10. Looking forward to seeing some of my VN bretheren at the Downtown Grill & Brewery before the game tomorrow night. Can't wait to see what the final leg of the tour holds.

what do you think the chances are we actually see Tulsa in the Liberty Bowl?

Does Texas come out alive from the Sooners, and more along the lines of what I want to know, did Vince Young buy Mack Brown four extra years?

Are you talking about the wrestling announcer icon Lance Russell? If so, Jerry Lawler used to call him banana nose back in the old days.... :eek:lol:

I haven't seen everybody in C-USA on TV, but from what I have viewed and looking at results, East Carolina , Southern Miss, and Tulsa are head and shoulders ahead of the field. The Golden Eagles got a big leg up by winning at ECU. Looking at their schedule, I could see Tulsa winning out.

OU has some defensive backfield issues they need to address. If they do so, they should handle Texas. If it weren't for Vince Young, Mack Brown wouldn't be the coach at Texas today.

Agree 100%. Mack Brown is equilivant to Lloyd Carr, IMO.

It's amazing what one dynamic player can do. Mack Brown was inches away from being fired before Young came in, then he suddenly became a God. I bet somewhere Bob Stoops is laughing.

Todd Graham is a guy I've quietly wondered if he is ready for Tennessee. If they keep Fulmer around in 2008, I'll be happy with Graham in 2009. Also, Graham hires GREAT assistants.

It's a three horse race IMO, ECU, Southern Miss and Houston. Houston hung in with Oregon alot more than the score showed, and although they have lost Kolb, their running back Aldridge is a real deal running back.

I came away from the OU/Tulsa game p/i/s/s/e/d for some reason and could not figure it out as I do not follow either team. I sat there thinking during that game that, "Tulsa could have a very good fb team but OU is just that much better." I felt for those guys playing hard but not being able to muster much against an obviously better team. Then it dawned on me. How many people across the US were thinking the exact same thing about UT during the FL game. What makes it even worse was that we were at the level of OU at one time.

My father-in-law started at QB at Tulsa for a couple of years and was skeptical of Malzahn from the get go. After having watched several practices and a couple of games, he believes. He and I went to see them a couple of weeks ago and both left thinking that Graham and Malzahn will be short timers at TU.

Rest of my weekend holds a UK - Arky game that I shocked to say that I'm looking forward to.

I dont think he's ready at this point. Isn't this his first year in Tulsa? and I think he was only at Rice for a very short time. I want a guy that has put some years together of sustained success
