I don't know if this metric exists or not, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a "starting percentage" metric.

You would have one for offense and defense.

So, lets say you're missing 4 defenders off your season starting lineup. 7 out of 11 are still playing thus producing a 64% metric. A similar metric could be calculated for offense.

I realize that starting positions can be up for grabs throughout the season, but if you started the metric after the 1st, 2nd or even 3rd game, most starters are identified by then. An there is nothing to say that your 2nd string is not up to the job (A Kamara comes to mind). I also realize that playing a start (for the sake of the metric) who is 70% could be a dumb move if a 2nd guys is available and is 100%.

I only ask this b/c of UT's current injury list - which is growing longer and the coach is no longer speaking about.

Comparing "offensive/defensive-starters-metric" as the season goes on against opposing teams could help ground everyone's expectations.
