Rutgers has a new athletic administration.

C Viv's contract is up at the end of this year.

I understand the new admin is not too hot to give her another big $$$ contract.

Sooo. . . UT is a plum job for any head coach (team, fans, admin support etc)

We could do a lot worse.

What do you think? Would she be a good fit here?

She's a good coach and all, but I think we need someone younger. She's probably getting towards the twilight of her career. If Holly doesn't make it, then I would go after Nikki or Jeff Walz at Louisville.

I love & respect C. Vivian Stringer so much but I doubt she will come to Tennessee. I could be wrong so if she does, I'd welcome her with open arms! I think she would do a much better job than CHW.

But yes, I do think we need someone a bit younger.

We have a better chance of a NC this year than getting Walz away from Louisville

I have a lot of respect for Stringer--but she has got to be close to retirement, and while she's put some good talent and some good teams on the floor, she is one of the few coaches in America who is worse at coaching team offense than Tennessee is. Many great defenses but her teams have a history of offensive struggles.

What's with the shade for her on here?

I don't consider her that good of a coach, so I'd say "no" ...

-First coach to bring 3 different teams to the Final Four.
-3rd all time with 900 wins, behind Summitt & Hatchel
-Inducted to the Basketball Hall of Fame

Just some of her highlights in her career. Very good friends with Pat Summitt. She has my utmost respect as one of the best coaches in the game.

No disrespect meant, I just think she is getting closer the end of her coaching career. And governmentmule is right, as of now there is no opening at UT.

That's the funniest thing I've read today. 900+ wins, 3 different teams to the final four. . . (ahh I see Kev beat me to it :) )

Although I agree with other posters that she has some miles on her, I'd bet she could (and will) coach for another 5-10 years.

Glad I wasn't the only one thinking this :-D
Definitely 5-10 years. I think you have to be mentally strong to be coached by someone like Stringer.
Offensively, her teams have been bonk! When I think of her I think of that vaunted 55 defense!

Although I am not particularly fond of her is a 100 times the coach HW is. Let's go for it, we will never win another NC under her and lose more SEC titles than win.

The coach question at Tennessee is so complex. Stringer is an interesting name to consider. From CViv's standpoint, there is probably only one strong motivator for coming to TN. The chance to take her fourth different school to the Final 4.

Most other factors say no. The east is her home. She has young grandchildren nearby that she would be reluctant to leave. She is 65. She makes over $1 million a year. Money probably would not be a motivator.

Would TN want her? She might be a good short term coach to get the program back on track. But, Stringer isn't currently setting the world on fire. Would TN be interested in paying big money to take such a risk. I doubt it.

I can't think of a good reason why Jeff Walz would want to leave L'ville. He's on the fast track, they love him, he's a Kentucky boy, has a great home venue and likes his job. I can see why TN would like him, but my guess it would take over $2 million to entice him. Although, judging from the quality of his wardrobe, he doesn't require much money.

Regarding Nikki, I'd wait a few years to see how she does at LSU before taking a chance with her. But by then she might be making $2 million though.

Let me get this straight... we want to fire EVERY coach on the payroll, now? lol.

Every thread seems to be speculating about a "who can we get to replace ______."

Wait! I may be in error... I haven't found a thread calling for new coaches in women's softball....yet.

There are only a couple of very good coaches out there at the moment. We don't have a need at the time, though. Whenever a new coach is needed, expect UT to throw very small bags of coins their way. They'll be looking for discount hires.

She hasn't done much with a lot of talent the last five years. You could argue they have as much talent on their team now as Tennessee does. They have Scaife a player we wanted very badly. They have those two big post players that we wanted and several other roster players that were rated five star players. I don't think anyone is coming to Tennessee next season Holly is signed through 2017 and even if she wins only 20 she will be back. Stringer will coach somewhere if Rutgers turns her loose. A lot of Big Ten and ACC teams that would like to have a coach with her reputation.
